![]() I got an eshopps 20 plug frag rack a couple of weeks ago, but now that it's about half filled with growing frags, the magnets aren't strong enough to hold it up through my glass. Are there other brands of frag rock with stronger magnets?

![]() Slap an old mag float on it to help bolster the magnets..... Most of my frag racks are DIYs made from old mag floats and eggcrate

![]() The Ocean Wonders rack is the best one I've tried. I have the Eshopps one as well -- it takes 2 mag floats to keep it from falling when it's even semi-full.
*I just noticed the price went way up on these. I paid $23.40 when I ordered mine from BRS a couple years ago... Last edited by Mandosh; 04-30-2013 at 08:18 PM. |

![]() a koralia magnet works well as they are stronger and larger, i also use a magfloat as support on mine lol the magnets doi suck for sure.
i could also make you a custom rack from acrylic would hold more frags if you need it buddy ![]() cheers denny |

![]() I can't see how the magnets on the ocean wonders one are oriented, is it just two magnets like the Eshopps?
I'm trying to avoid needing to add extra pieces from mag floats or koralias as this frag rack is in my display tank and to make sure the frags are getting enough light it's positioned in a spot that's unfortunately visible from my entire first floor, so it's got to be pretty. Putting it in a hidden corner would require buying a spotlight like a Kessil or something for it and I keep blowing the tank budget on corals and fish ![]() I'm not super digging the look of the Ocean Wonders rack as something to look at in the display, I think even algae covered clear acryllic would look better than black. Denny, the idea of a custom frag rack fills me with an amount of glee that is both surprising and exciting. I'm in - how should I proceed? |

Do you think I could get away with only putting the neodymium magnets on the outside of the glass, or would I need to replace the ones that are on the water side as well? If just the outside, is the plasti-dip still required, or will the scratch the glass without it? |

![]() For now, use the mag float on the top lip, not underneath as support. Sandwich that top piece, it works well with a full rack. You're lucky, I had a large torch under my rack, so when it fell, I lost frags to the torch each time.

![]() good idea, I just did that. It had never fallen completely off the glass before, just slid down, so I thought having it rest on the top of the mag float would be enough. WRONG!
The sandwiched effect seems much more stable |
