Default Pairing Maroon clowns journal

We currently have a very beautiful White stripe Maroon clown living in a blue carpet. I have been wanting to find him(her) a mate for a while now, but didnt want the yellow. We have finally found a nice looking white stripe and have begun the pairing process, the new guy started in a breeder box next to the other clown, they were definitely interested in each other, but didnt seem to be ramming the glass. We let him out for a day and he was quite beat up but not dead, which is good, so hes back in the glass. We will be trying to release him again in a couple days and see what happens.

Our clown is about 2", the new one is about 1.5"

I don't think they will be different in size enough to pair up.
What size is the tank?
My female is around 5 inches, and my male is only about 2.
