micro 4/3 cameras
Looking to move up from a point and shot but not really interesting in a full DSLR. With so many makes/models having a hard time even making a short list. Hoping body, 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses and keeping around $1000.
Wondering what others are using.

Just got a 60D with 100mm macro, not a full frame but man does it ever take good pictures. Also got a 18-200mm lens with the package.

I think Sony and Fuji are the leaders in that category.
But I'd also recommend a dslr. Even if it's one of the smaller models |

Checkdpreview.com... Good info. I have a panasonic lx3 and quite happy with them. Panasonic codevelops with leica camerasand the lx3 and lx5 are greatfor low light conditions...color accuracy is great ! Their micro slr series is also verygood.

I'm using a Panasonic G2 and like it very much. Good photos, lots of functionality without the bulk of a DSLR. I chose it over the other offerings in this class for it's rotating view screen and built in viewfinder. I've got the standard 14-42 lens it came with and a 45-200. I also added an external flash as the built in is pretty limited.

There are a lot of options in the used market, these are just some of the Nikon DSLR packages available in your area.

It's one of the better crop sensors DSLRs and has all the auto settings so it's easy to use. Also instead of the two separate lens you might want to consider the 18-200mm, you wont really notice a difference between that and using two separate lenses other than less hassle and baggage. The nikkor 18-200mm VR can usually be picked up used for around $500, Sigma and other versions even cheaper. |

Just go full DSLR, many are inexpensive and still have some nice auto shoot features, plus tonnes of options for lenses and upgrading when your ready. My DSLR has a macro option, just pick it, point and shoot, its makes some very nice pictures.

So looked into the DSLRs, new and used and really not what the wife or I was wanting so focused on the m4/3.
Big thing this on my list was low light use and wanted a hot-shoe. Found the Panasonic GF2 are being cleared out kitted with a 14mm f2.5 lens so bought it along with a 14-150mm. Only picked it up last night but no complaints so far and have 2 weeks to return if I do. Interestingly seen today Costco has the Canon T3, with 18-55mm and 75-300mm for $589.

The only thing that turns me off is no viewfinder (unless you buy an add on eletronic) and either small pop up flash or no built in flash (with option of buying an add on but can only use either the flash or the view finder). |
