Default Seeding A Bunch Of New Rock

so i've been in the process of upgrading to a larger tank. scraped the idea of the 150 gallon (sold it) and have finally decided on a 180 gallon tank, 40 gallon sump and 30 gallon refugium with DSB.

tank will be done being built and will be done this weekend.

at the moment, im seeding a bunch of my coral baserock in my 55 gallon

so i was thinking about transferring the live sand from my current 55 gallon into the refugium and filling the display tank with about 2 inches of new aragonite sand.

i've heard bad things about moving sand from one tank to another, any insight?

Default Transfer of Sand

We have transfered sand over on two tanks and have not had any problems. 150g and 90g.

If it were a deep sand bed (> 4" deep), then I'd be concerned about disturbing the sand because H2S and other toxins may be released into the water column potentially causing harm to your fish and corals. Since, it's shallow, I wouldn't be concerned. A DSB should be greater than 4" and it's probably a good idea to do the transfer. If it's less than 4" deep, then you have to do the regular maintenance of vacuuming up the detritus.

im hoping 2-3 inches from a 55 gallon will cover about 4 inches on a 30 gallon tank
