They used to be not very good. I haven't heard much lately about them at all.
What are the specs of the notebook?

Can't say anything about MDG's - but if you look you'll notice the majority of laptops look almost identical (minor aesthetic changes) with near identical specs... There is a reason for that

I bought a refurbished Gateway laptop - couldn't be happier... Ok well more ram would be nice but....

In the industry we always said.
MDG=Mostly Damaged Goods
But most laptops in that price range will be a celeron with 256MB of ram.
Go for a model a bit higher at least $800-$1000 or you will be disappointed by the lack of performance within months, and all you can really upgrade on laptops is adding some ram.

Consider this thread closed, as I'm going to get a Dell notebook. Mdg's notebook has an ok setup with a 512mb of ram and for under $600 thats sound like a bargain.. however the research I've done on Mdg turned out to be negative..
Thanks for all the comments guys.

Except for the hours you'll spend uninstalling all the preloaded "offers" and crap that dell ships on their consumer lines, you'll be happy. Seriously, I think Dell may make more money selling advertising than building computers.

C'mon that applies to virtually any reseller beyond the boutique shops... Heck we bought a copy of XP, only to get 2-3 dozen useless 'free offers' and ISP's and nagware and and and...
