Default FS: 50g Aqueon sump - Burnaby

Made a larger sump so selling my beloved 50
This is an Aqueon 36 x 18 x 19 tall, black trim with a factory center brace/top trim style

Currently it's as follows;
Drains dump into the skimmer section before the socks. I know, right? Well, when I first designed this system, many on Canreef convinced me to let the skimmer do it's job without filtration, so here it is.
There are benefits to it though if you want to run a HOB 'fuge' this is the place, or whatever you can think of.

Skimmer section is 9-5/8" x 17-1/4" x 16-7/8" tall. I built a glass skimmer stand to get the height my skimmer requires, and can do the same for you. The benefit is more water volume and higher bubble trap baffles. This allows for vertical heaters that never run dry during water changes and, of course, more system volume for water changes.

Water flows over the 16-7/8 baffle and through an acrylic sock tray. The tray is supported by glass strips, is removable, and holds 3 x 4" socks. I have 6 used socks to go with the sump and they are available through J&L from Aqueon if you want to purchase new ones.

Once water runs through the socks, it goes under a bubble trap and flows past the heaters in the final section. This area is 2-1/8" wide and will accommodate any heater with a waterline requirement up to 16".
Water passes over the final wall into a return pump section measuring 18".

I love this large return pump area as it allows room for reactors and pumps, chiller pump, water change pump or whatever. Plus running an Eheim 1262 at a water level of 13" makes it virtually silent.
Then, when it's water change time, I would turn off the return and pump the 12 gallons of skimmer chamber water into the return pump chamber. This allows for removing over 30 gallons of water without draining the DT
