Default new tank build

Its time to upgrade to a bigger tank, I have a bunch of extra equipment sitting around thats enough to support this new tank so why not....right? Im planning on building a shallow reef tank with the dimensions of 40x24x13, since this is my first time building my own tank I have a few questions.

What thickness of glass would I need?
Would I need a brace on top?
What glue and silicone would u guys recomend?

I know there are shops around town who custom build tanks but im a diy kind of guy and would like to give it a shot. On my current tank I built everything except the dt so doing it all would give me a bit more satisfaction.

Thanks in advance for the help.
