I found a decent table for my tank, and it just barely fits the filter.

Live rock and live sand have bacteria and other cool life forms, for sure. Adding them will speed up the cycling process a lot, and will add a whole lot more living organisms to the tank. Starting...

I've been out of the reef scene for a couple of years, sadly. My new job pulled me from home, and I had a lot of other issues to deal with. I had to drastically downsize my aquarium hobby (both FW...

Keep snails and crabs in the tank with the mantis as often as possible. Sometimes it takes awhile before the mantis kills anything, but if there's nothing for it to punch at, it might lose it's...

Yeah, I was pretty stunned about the Navy offer too. I didn't see that one coming. I have no problem with the Navy, but I have no experience with it either. It'll be very different from what I've...

I'm in the Comm Res too. I joined in 1996. Well, today I returned all my kit except for my uniforms. I just exchanged my green beret and Jimmy cap badge for a black beret and the paper clips. I'm...

I need to replace my 180 GPH powerhead. The steel impeller shaft rusted enough to make it noisy. I figure a 200 GPH or so powerhead would be a decent upgrade for the flow in my tank (13 gallon).

In such a small tank, it probably won't make a difference either way. The tank is too small for a deep sand bed (DSB), so you'd probably do best keeping the substrate as shallow as possible. The...

I'm curious about moving tanks myself. I've been in the Army Reserves since 1996, and I'm just about to switch over to the Navy Regs (I had applied for the Air Force, though). I won't get posted...

The tank looks awesome. You've got some nice riccs in there.

How well do clams do in a BB tank? I don't know much about them at all, but I always figured they liked to sit in a sandbed.

Just to be absolutely clear, all my input should be taken with the understanding that the puffer isn't going to have any roommates. Puffers eat mollusks, crustaceans, and snails. Their beak was...

Yeah, that might be true. I had a lot of FW puffers, so big water changes to offset their mess wasn't so much of an issue. Then again, an oversized skimmer and larger weekly water changes on a...

That'll do it, I'm sure. Even a 15 long should be good.

I missed this earlier. Dwarf Puffers are one of the FW-only species.

If you put a puffer in a tank that's too small for it, it will get stunted growth, and this will shorten its life expectancy. Puffers are notoriously bad for this, along with loaches.

Green...

My mantis isn't super active, but it's sure neat to watch. I'd recommend a lid. Corals are no problem; they won't get eaten.

If you can find a suitable mantis, it would be sweet. Finding them is the tricky part. Anything that grows over 3" or 4" is too big. Here's a list:

They only breed too much if the conditions are right, IME. My 9 gallon tank never has enough; I think the Paradise Fish might be eating them. I'm getting mild plant damage in my Betta tank, though....

First off, DON'T get an anemone. That tank is too small, and they're not suited for beginners. Clowns will host in quite a variety of substitutes, like anthelia, xenia, mushrooms, and frogspawn.

The tank looks cool so far. Here are my thoughts:

1. Is the tube in the middle a supply line from the sump? If so, is it going to have something to prevent it from draining water back into the...

My clowns love hosting in mushrooms. These are easy to keep corals.
