Hmm, maybe it's not the same thing then. This appendage was almost as long as the clam, around 1" - 2" long, it is a solid tube about 1/4" around.

The clam has attached, I bumped him the other day...

Thanks for the responses. I guess I should have asked for dealers other then Ocean Aquatics. They only have the elements in stock and my tank temp is in dire need of stability, I can't wait 2-3 weeks.

That would be my guess. I battled with low Ca for the longest time, dosing and dosing, nothing worked until I got my Mg levels up, then maintaining the Ca wasn't a problem at all.
