Tank size for Tangs? An evaluation...

I think you may be of the mistaken opinion that the tang police are a group of reefers experienced with tangs who just have very large tanks.
That is not the case.
Most reefers who have 90 to 120...

Tank size for Tangs? An evaluation...

I think I can answer some of the questions asked here.
The reasons why tangs are the subject of so much concern relative to their care are twofold
1. Tangs are beautiful endearing fish. Take a look...

Mandarin - Psychedelic

Please leave the fish at the LFS.
Whenever we buy a fish using a 'rescue justification' all we are doing is encouraging the LFS to order another one.
If it dies in their tank it is more likely that...

Thanks Delphinus for the kind words.
And also thanks, son. ;)

I am sure I speak for almost everyone on the board when I say that it would be almost impossible to return a blue (regal) tang...

Superfudge posted as follows

"98% of us do not purchase the fish to NOT give them anything less than our best care"

Tang feeding...

Wardley makes the spirulina discs but, there may be others. Make sure the label says 100% spirulina as some spirulina products which say spirulina are only 10%.
The discs are hard so they do not...

Tang feeding...

Selcon soaked nori from time to time but mostly spirulina discs.
They are hard so they stay together for a long time and therefor ideal for tangs that graze all day.

Diomedes
Please read my post.
You may disagree with I said (keeping two tangs in a 27 gallon is not acceptable) but how could you possibly suggest that this was "blind condemnation"?

Sumpfinfishe

I don't know how to tell you nicely as most reefers would get the messages you have received from members of this and reefcentral.
The fact is keeping these tangs in a 29 is not...

Baking Soda.. How much?

How can you argue with a chemist. I read that baking soda raises the PH. Interestingly enough it did. Or, was it baking powder?

I want to applaud Gord for his decision and the excellent advice given to him.

But we all must take one step further.

Deep water biotope list.. suggestions???

yeah I assummed cooler water and a dimmly lit tank as opposed to what we all keep.

Deep water biotope list.. suggestions???

If you go real deep and dark (cool tank) how about a pinecone fish.
It would really limit the other fish and coral though

The kole tang tends to get a bit cut up as it darts around when it is new to the tank.

Please look...
