I have a 72g bowfront with halides. They fit fine. What brand of fixture are you using? The legs invert so it fits. Tight but it fits.

High Phosphate

Overfeeding is one cause. Infrequent water changes contribute as well. High phosphate promotes hair algae..Yuk:sad:
