I think part of the reason for mixed advice is...
I think part of the reason for mixed advice is the term refugium means something different to everyone. Deep sand bed, macro algae, live rocks, mangroves, etc...
I see the benefit to have macros...

Sure did. I'm replacing all the fans in it as it's quite noisy. Got some silent computer fans, opened up the factory fan holes, and added grills. Now it flows more air and should be almost silent....
