I use a Cuisinart PerfecTemp kettle set to 160f, add water to a glass, scoop in some beads, scoop out beads when they turn clear. Never had an issue with being burned or having it stick to glass.

Hmmm good to know that higher NO3 can have an effect on algae. I would think over the years that someone would've noticed a relation to higher NO3 = no Bryopsis in 10 days.
