I really wouldn't recommend dish soap as it will leave phosphate residue behind. Vinegar and water, or a mild bleach/water mix, just rinse well with plenty of fresh water and then use a good chlorine...

You have a pump moving the water around??? and a heater to keep the water at a reasonable temp? I wouldn't be doing that many water changes myself, just let it cure for a week or two.

My biggest draw to a sump is the auto fresh water top off. That being said a number of people have made DIY top offs for their tank with out any problems.

For soft corals I think the Carnation corals (Dendronephtytha sp.) are very pretty. You can find them in pinks and some rather bright reds. I'm very pleased with mine.
