LOL, no worries. I never believe what the heater says, I always have another thermometer and go by that. Once you hit your target temp, turn the heater down till the light goes off and keep an eye on...

I haven't even seen one at 10". Biggest one I have seen was about 8" or so and full grown, the guy had had him for 6+ years. If I were you I'd risk it and keep him.
