i use 3/4 birch as it is only 37 dollars a sheet and stains up well,maple doesn't take stain well and is about twice the price.the sides i usually use 1/4 rotary mahogany-23 dollars a sheet

a level sand bed won't matter after a while-especially if you have wrasses,my sand bed is anywhere from 2 inches to about 8 inches

colour enhacement
i have seen corals with a red/blue/yellow disk beside them.best way to see if the corals have been retouched.maybe more vendors will adopt this idea for more true colour correction,maybe not

your nitrites are really high.should be 0.2 parts per million or less.your canister filter is probably a nitrate/nitrite trap.re test your nitrates as well

if you are going to have doors below you might want to double up the front joist.also i have been building a lot of stands and you don't really need 2x6.2x4 on edge is fine.carry all your jack joists...

how live can a bag of sand be that has been sitting on a shelf for a couple of months?i just rinse my old sand and reuse it-and i have a deep sand bed(between 4-7 inches)
