I think you're a bit high on the $120 price tag for the silver. They just don't cost that much. About 5 years ago I bought a 2" silver for $25. I'm thinking maybe $50 at the most.

Gut it. Use carbon packs in you bottom trays and fill the rest with live rock rubble. No bio balls/pellets or foam. The live rock will filter better than any of that other crap and lessen the chances...
