The best a fish store can check for is the same stuff you can check for at home with a couple of test kits. Our water here in the lower mainland is pretty good so most filters have extra long life...

I'd use carbon to remove it quicker if that's your intention. I hope you didn't treat your main tank but a QT tank instead. Malachite green has many uses and it is a powerful dye, even once oxidized...
