as long as the bulbs aren't getting splashed and you can still get your hand in the tank without moving the fixture, i would say you can move it...

for a reef tank i would rate it right up with the skimmer. it is great for exporting nutrients ( using macro algae ) as well as providing a place for critters to thrive and provide a natural food...

it is a lot tougher to keep a tank with both SPS and softies and i think running carbon is a must in these tanks.
