You need to determine what skimmer you are using first. From what I've read the NAC3.5 runs best in 8-10 inches of water. Where as the NAC6 runs best in 9.5-11 inches. So your first baffle should...

I'm to cheap for the good stuff I've got this one. They all do the same thing. I use rigid water line and I have no insert in the line and it doesn't move hen I try pulling on it....

Are you using 1/4 ridgid water line? If so you likely don't even need the insert I don't have an insert in in the supply line on my float valve. Tighten it up an tug on it. If you can pull it out...
