Tested again after my water swap with all 3 kits, all read 500.

Not the issue, checked the lot # and it is not in the list of recalled regents. Also tested with an API & Elos kits.

Did a water relocation between my big tanks and got it down to 500 now.

Same here, always have unions on returns and never an issue. I use an o ring grease to make sure they don't dry out and seal tight.

If you just need to cut it off and put it back on...

If you just need to cut it off and put it back on go to Home Depot and get a 1/2" push on connector no crimping required.
