I checked out Sanjay's articles, but he hasn't mentioned or tested these particular bulbs. I don't know if you could generalize from one to the other -- but maybe they all come from the same factory...

"K" refers to the colour of the bulbs. Lower K values are reddish (1000-2000K), going to white (full spectrum) at between 6000-10000K. Values above 10000 start to become distinctly blue.

Source for bulbs - Coralife quad 96W fixture

We have a coralife 96W "quad" fixture, which comes with a 50/50 bulb. Last time we replaced it, we bought a bulb from Bob I (not much seen in these parts lately) which was a 10K bulb (no actinic).

Almost all commercial sand is silicate. Silicates grow diatoms. Diatoms are ugly. Therefore, don't use silicate sand in a reef aquarium. I'd also worry about what else was in "commercial grade"...
