I use Kent and it frequently goes cloudy and does not clear up after 24 hours mixing. I've sorta been concerned, but sorta not, and use it anyway. Having said that, my reef is far from perfect....

I think toxic metals are pretty much a no no in our daily society these days. Lead. Uranium. Whatever. In other words, I doubt the heater has anything toxic in it and you're probably fine. JMO.
