I had to make a similar choice before too.

I went with an Eheim 1262. It's awesome, virtually silent, yet pretty powerful. You may pay a bit more for it, but it's worth it in the long run.

Yeah, they're STRONG. I have a 3/4" one on each of my hood doors to hold them up.

Just be sure you dont accidently lump them all together, or else you'll be HOOPED when you try to separate them...
