Nope, not really. Everyone tries lots of other things, but it usually comes down to a black out. Best to do it now before you're fully stocked with coral.

Not a big deal at all, I haven't used DI for years. Vancouver has soft water and not anything to be concerned with.
Algae could be diatoms, but being stringy like that, I'd worry about...

I have pumps coming in this week for the various bubble kings, I'll play with those for a while and see what I like. I might run dual BK 160s, maybe a 200. I have an Omega 150 and a Super Reef...

While I'm not sure that's a real number, you do need to remove a layer of every external and internal surface to unbind the PO4. You're gonna lose some mass :)

I have some conches, and a bunch of large sand burrowing snails, they move stuff around pretty good. It's getting better, so not worried. Just need the rock to build enough internal bacteria to...

Ya, the rock isn't bad, just not as clean as it could be. PO4, last hanna check was 0.21. Probably a bit lower now, I've been using fozdown. With a Elos test, it's blue :) I can never tell where...

Still fighting diatoms, NO3 and PO4 levels a bit higher than I'm happy with. Using dead rock was probably not the right choice, but I'll give it three more months before making any rash decisions....

No :) I find that the water height and air intake are enough to perfectly tune for my needs, so I'd rather not buy a DC pump. More complicated, more stuff to break.

Fair enough, but I don't conceptualize the point. Seems odd to want a controllable pump that I don't want to change. Just start with the right sized pump and go.

But, I've been known to be wrong...

Ya, but over 50 pounds gets cheaper, and for me, I can get better pricing so not a huge issue. I would only need 50 pounds, so within budget, since now I'm doing 50g water changes every 10 days.

:) That's where I'm at now. My rock isn't bad, but I'm comparing it to my last build when I used fresh rock. I didn't have any of these issues and nutrients were never measurable. Currently sitting...

I'm curious what the rock does 3 months after the tank is setup? I used dead rock, against what I normally advocate, and regret my decision. I didn't do the bleach/acid thing, but cooked it for a...

Really? The last thing I would ever use is a controllable pump on a skimmer. Over complicates things, adds additional cost that doesn't need to be there, and once set, you probably never have to...

No, he's just fine where he is. When the back is dirty, he's fine. I just need to figure out a clean non reflective solution.

Help my Tang regain sanity

So with the new tank, the design and aesthetics call for the back glass to stay clean.
However, when clean, my Achilles can see his reflection and has been fighting with himself every waking moment....

Like you said, excess bacteria. The ones I don't care about. Maybe I'm just not understanding your point, but I will agree that aggressive skimming is desirable to remove this excess.

Nope, sorry, no clumps. And if there were clumps, that's bound and probably not really active in what I want bacteria to be doing, and therefore, again, insignificant. The only bacteria I'm concerned...

Here's my take on that. I don't care at all about any bacteria in water, so if it's there or not, makes no difference. The amount free in the water column is insignificant, so let the skimmer take...
