150 Gal Cube Overflow removal

Have a 150 gal Marineland Cube tank with a stock corner overflow. The overflow has 2 holes (1" i believe). My question is this, would there be any risk removing the plastic overflow partition and use the bottom holes to directly plum my canister filter. The reason for doing this is I am running canister filters and want to reduce the chance of air getting suced into the filters.

If the line ever leaked or broke the hoe tank would drain vs just the top part. I have a brother in law running his tank with a overflow and canister it takes quite a bit of evap before it runs dry.

Wouldent it be easier to just plumb a simple drain / return and have a sump , there must be lots of room under a 150 gal cube .

I would just use a sump & overflow as it is designed and hook up your canister filter to clean either the display, sump or maybe even the overflow water.

Nevermind... decided to hook up a sump system to house the reactor, probes and autotop off.
