View Full Version : How old are you?

jorjef

Always curious of the ages of other people on the site. I'm sure I would be in the top 20 percentile in age at 47. This could be interesting, I would guess the majority would be 25-35.

Ya okay not sure how to do the "pick an age group" thing, for the poll

59, recently retired, and enjoying life more than ever...

Skipped through the thread from a couple years ago, and interesting that most are in the 20's and early 30's. I had FW tanks then, but life got more busy with career, kids, and moves, so that hobby got put aside.

Then, just over a year ago, moved to a house that had a SW tank, and now am hooked again...

What's really different now, is all the info available on the internet with forums like canreef. In the old days, had to buy books and mags. Still have an old box full of TFH mags.

I forgot to add that I started in the aquarium hobby in China when I was 7, we had a out door 100 gallon tank made out of cement and 3 viewing panels, real ol'skool with miniture temples and bridges built in. real cool stuff. I got into saltwater 6 years ago and it has been amazing.

Sorry but you're out of luck, it was already quoted in post #63

So that was two years ago... getting awful close to the big 3 0, no wonder you're so sensitive.

I'm 27, but those who have met me probably think I'm in my early 20's. :cheer2: I started my first reef in 1993 it also had an UGF (under-gravel filter), a Skilter 250 "protein skimmer", 18w of T8 lighting, and a Condy anemone that didn't appreciate any of that. :(

I'm 53 (and feel more like 80 everyday!). Interesting stats. If I read the thread correctly... here is brief breakdown:

16-19 2
20-29 13
30-39 10
40-49 8
50-59 7

So... majority of reefers are between ages 20-29, with the next highest age group of 30-39 holding second place.

Born in 68.

Had my first fw tank in 76.

My first sw tank in 82-83.

By 86 I had a 33g Volitan lionfish tank, a 110g (biggest tank available back in the stone age) mixed predator tank with a snowflake moray, Moorish Idol, Passer King angel, and a Smooth Horn SHARK - all filtered by an UG filter, HOB Whisper, canister filter, and the occasional diatom filtration. Oh and my first seahorse tank.

1997-2001, worked on a fish farm in Powell River feeding 3.4 million salmon smolts.

Restarted my sw addiction in 2001-2002.

37. I decided I wanted a reef tank when snorkelling in Belize on my honeymoon at 29.

When my wife and I decided to build a new house in 2008, with me doing the electrical, plumbing, flooring, mouldings. I had 2 conditions, if I was going to do it, I am getting a big ass reef tank and a hot tub.

About a year later, when we were chopping the budget, house 75% built, the wife mentioned cutting the tank. I asked where she would like the for sale sign to be dug.

I'm 48 soon to be older. I've had a tank of some sort since I could carry the water change bucket for myself. Well that is a little untrue. I had about eight years to convince the wife that the tank explosion only happens once in a million.

Im the fantastic age of 26 , too young to have any money , too old to have any fun.

I'm old enough to be offended when someone asks my age (unless I'm being ID'd . . . which still happens on occasion: on my really good days :D).

26, pretty much 27. Been into Fish for 9 years, salt for 7. Been out of the hobby for the last nearly 5 years, and just getting back into it with 2 tanks in the works. Go big or go home right?
