Awesome rock work!

(it's mike by the way)

Where is your skimmer at now?? Running nothing at the moment?

I also see some mad overflow out of those filter socks... Same reason I got rid of mine! couldn't keep changing them every day lol

Can't wait to see this thing grow.

Hey mike, yeah Im skimmerless right now, Im hoping the cheato will do the job for me now untill it gets a little more diverse. I ran the skimmer right after it cycled to clean everything right up.

Take a look at this tank, Im hoping for something along the lines of this, all he's got is cheato and a few hangon filters
http://www.nano-reef.com/featured/?tank=20

Ill throw the skimmer back on later down the road

This is my problem. I wanted to paint the back of my tank from the beginning but it somehow slipped to the wayside, now i'm kinda stuck for what I can do.
1. Painting the back is a possibility still but my only concern is that you'll still be able to see into it.
2. I thought about a piece of acrylic in the overflow but I don't think the colours will match the paint even if perfectly matched beforehand (see picture - the darker is on the outside the other on the side and the last inside the overflow)
3. I am now thinking that I can get a full sheet of thin acrylic to place inside the tank the full length of the wall. BUT there are two issues with that - how to get it to stay flush with the back wall and there are a few points of my rock work that is against the wall ( I cant move it very easily)

Here is the colour problem (they are all the same - left to right, inside overflow, outside tank (darker), inside tank (same as overflow)

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01187.jpg

Anyone got any thoughts or other suggestions?

Hey Guys so last night was a long one! I have two 6 bulb 3 foot Tek lights that I needed to put over my tank. Why two, you may ask and I would say because I have an odd tank that is 3 foot long by 3 foot wide by 2 foot tall. Next you may ask why not just 2 250w MH's and I would say because this tank is in my room and its hot enough in that place without MH's cooking me like a chicken. So here it is my custom 12 bulb 3 foot Tek light that took me from 8pm till 430am to build so my tank had light again in the morning :)

I stopped about halfway through and thought hey, yo guys might want to see this so I grabbed my camera.
So here is where we start...two perfectly working, in good condition, made in 2008, 6x39w Tek Lights

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01459.jpg

Then I started to cut, and cut, and cut, and cut some more!

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01457.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01458.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01461.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01460.jpg

After that was done I put it together to create the outer shell for my masterpiece

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01462.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01465.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01464.jpg

Then I had to relocate the cords and switches all to one side

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01466.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01468.jpg

Now I started to rewire this bizznich

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01456.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01469.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01471.jpg

Next came the reflectors! Just about done only 5 hours later

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t211/Jkamie/DSC01472.jpg

Now the lights and look at that baby glow

Wow very clean set up you should be able to grow anything with that light. Just curious as you went with 2 3 ft t5 fixtures?

I had a 4 bulb wavepoint fixture from my previous 30 gallon over it and it just wasn't cutting it, so I went to find an 8 bulb 3 foot tek light, I did actually find one but I got out bid on eBay, so I did the next best thing. My tank is only 3 feet long so that was my max on length and I wanted more then 6 bulbs cus im going to have this tank for a while and don't know what im going to get into so I want to make sure I have enough light to do everything.

Plus having control over 4 different sections means I can mess with bulb configurations and start up times as well as just having a few off for the softies

Thanks Asmodeus. I got some new bulbs on the way I was looking for a bluer look but I have to agree everything looks great in that light. Im really surprised how fast my rock coloured up, everywhere I look i see coraline its nuts its only been 3 and a bit months since i put the rock structure in the tank however its been cycling for about 6-7 months with a few pieces of live rock so maybe thats the secret to my success

That Frankenlight is pretty impressive, TOTAL coverage.

I love the sunken destroyer too, sometimes people take their reef tanks too seriously, nice to see someone else who thinks they can be fun.

yellowworld
10-15-2011, 06:28 PM
Frankenlight haha I like that. It is massive but the tank is pretty deep, 2 and a half feet deep to be exact, the 6 bulb just couldn't cut it and they don't make the 8 bulb anymore and no one has them or if they do they are holding on tight to them

I love my destroyer! its like everything in my tank is massive in comparison to it, it makes my tank its own little fantasy world haha. I got some greek ruins in my other 15g nano tank too haha
