Sorry to hear. That does suck. I left on paternity leave in January, because my wife makes more(a lot more) money than I do. I thought no big deal, I will just return in Sept. I was talking to the guys the other day and they are letting 4 guys go. Makes me wonder if I have something to go back too.

I know what you mean. I've been putting off getting a new vehicle (house, vacation and marriage) for 4 years because I cant find steady employment here. Now if I could only get a refund for that $25000 I spent on education...

While many of us (including me) have faced many different ups and downs, i'm gonna get geeky and say, "just believe that it will all work out" Be positive and positive things will come your way, be negative and that's all you'll see and possibly experience. Do what you have to, to keep things going and share the responsibilities in life with your partner (if you have one). ;)

Ya, I know I will get another job, it's just when. We have been living on the edge for quite a while now, Savings were burned up last year. I cant afford even 2 weeks without a paycheque right now, EI JUST pays Mtg and Truck payment, nothing else. Only behind on CC bills so screw them, household bills are kept up.
Can you bring the truck back for a cheaper older truck.

I know this may not be exactly what you meant but most household bills (at least in Saskatchewan) don't usually report to the credit report companies quite as soon as the credit card companies will come down on you.
It could possibly be better for your credit score to pay the CC companies their minimums and try and work something out with the utilities providers?
I wish you all the luck!

Screw the companies that report to your credit bureau isn't a good idea at all.
My wife and I can last indefinitely without income. We live in a very modest condo, but have bought many investment properties over the years that cash flow positive from day one. People should really invest in income producing assets rather than depreciating assets. The net income we get from the investments would pay all our expenses for what we need.
We have taken no hand outs from parents or inheritance, all was on our own.

I got the "Downsizing due to economic factors beyond our control" speech in March 2009. At the time, my wife and I bought into the "life gives you lemons make lemonade" philosophy so we cashed in our savings took my severance, and went on one last big trip. It was great and seemed like a good idea at the time.
3 months pounding the pavement in downtown Calgary and we are both still unemployed. We might be looking back with a touch of hindsight now!!!
Oh well, things have to get better some time. Chin up, shoulders back, big smile, and start begging!!!!

I've done everything on my own and bought toys went through a divorce lost said toys and now buying more toys. We get by just and we have had to sell some of the extra toys to help out but. We have to look on the bright side there are jobs out there just have to get the fish to bite and then set the hook. I bought my first place when I move out from my parents place no cosigner and my own down payment. interest rate was in the 13% range early 1990's I payed 1200 a month on a 47,000 mortgage it was a bit high because it was a shorter term mortgage and a 1 year amortization, It was a condo not a house with strata so there was more money and I payed all my own utilities as each unit had separate electric and phone lines no gas in the units. electric was not that much. water sewer and gas was paid to the city twice a year at a set rate. You have to make your own destiny not let everything else decide your destiny. You have been talking about working on a biss in the aqaudics industry you still can just start slow get preorders and a deposit on everything. None returnable so it would amount to a restocking fee. As the saying goes there is more ways than one to skinn a fish......

there bonus pay is a joke actualy, I hade 4 ODs working for me who were told they would get it but after 3 years of me writing memos on there behalf and fighting with and for them.. nothing.. they try to find every way they can to get out of paying it even stalling so long you get tired of fighting.

Oh, did I forget to mention that I am a Industrial Electrician? I acctually think I have a line on a job up Albion oil sands. Will find out tomorrow. See, thing is, I won't relocate for work. Atleast not right now., so it's camp jobs for me. It's easy to get a job if you can relocate tomorrow.

I'm in the same situation my wife will not move. She now says she will but only within BC.
It sucks if I do get a job some where else I will loose and if I don't I will loose, so it does not matter.

I feel your pain. I moved from Calgary 1.5 years ago and lost my job last spring. It's tough finding a good job in a small market like the Kootenay's. Thankfully my wife landed one right away, but I'm still looking.

1 hour north of Ft.Macmurray. Really nice camp, like a 3 star hotel. Lots to do but camp sucks period. Being stuck in camp is like prison but at least the money is insane.

I always hated being in camp because I made less money (no subsistence pay) and even the 'nice' camps were still sh*t holes IMO. Being one of the least favorite people on most locations (by nearly everyone) didn't help much either as people were either upset with what I did and how much I made.
I think work is slow everywhere though. A Master Electrician friend of mine recently got fired from an Oil Sands project. He was only kept so long because he was on contract and it would have cost the company way too much to break it.
Anyways good luck with the new job. Anything is better than nothing is what I always say and something better will always come around, especially when this economy rebounds.

I don't think he bought a new truck because he was getting lay ed off it was unexpected and just bad timing the lease on his truck came due and he had to have some thing to drive back and forth from 100mile to revelstoke. I feel his pain.

No offence, but it's Manatoba.... LOL JK I had to.
It does seem like residential Electricians are allways in high demand, But the low wages, cut throat competition, it's not for me. I'm an industrial electrician, PLC's Analog control's etc. Thats fun :D
