StirCrazy

realy can't see a differance becuase the befor pictures are to far out and of different things than the after.

Do you have any close up pics of specific corals "befor and after"?

the colors are a bit more bright, but cant tell in the photos, but you can see the growth difference.
i have only been on zeo base system for 2months, and dosing for 3 months.

What are you using for the background on that tank? I really like the way the light has played upon it in the first picture to create so many lines going in so many directions. Corals are growing out very nicely!

lobsterboy
01-07-2009, 07:55 AM
Thanks, for the background, I am not using anything for a background, its just the plain ol white wall, the light does bounce off it and give a nice flicker, kinda 3-d like.

You've got no coraline growing on your glass. Is that because of ZeoVit or are you scraping you glass clean all the time?

Nice tank!

lobsterboy
01-07-2009, 05:18 PM
i have noticed that, the amount of less purple coraline alg, has died or vanished from ,my system after going zeo. I know that some of the additvies, help to limit algae growth, so maybe coralline falls into this catagory. other than that, I try to keep the glass spotless.

thanks

I've seen Johns tank both before and after he switched his bulbs. When he's just running the Fiji Purples the greens/blues and purples in that tank are rediculous. Makes me hate him a little actually LOL

Colors and PE on all his corals are great, definately a sharp looking tank. One of my favorite.

I picked these up on thursday night from Greg at Coral Master. He even threw in an extra frag, i dont have a picture of it, as its kinda placed in a hard to shoot area. but tis awesome.
All are Incredible additions, at an excellent price, you would have a hard time finding frags like these in stores. Polyps where out, 5minutes after in my tank.
I highly suggest that get ahold of him, to check out what he has, its not your ordinary fair.

A resort on Van Isle where I was the Chef, we had 3 cold water tanks with almost 14000 gallons total. The main one in the dinning room is 13000 gallons (all water was pumped in from the bay the resort was on) Kept lots of PNW species such as salmon, rock cod, flounder, dungeness crabs, starfish/sun stars, octopi and anemone. The Aquarist worked very closely with the Vancouver Aquarium and the Pacific Research Station in Uclulet.

so i just finished with the changing of the lights, only after 2.5months.
I must say that I see a big difference with the light. only with 4 fiji;s running, they look like a 15k. its awesome.
I took some pics, before and after, photo are not taken at same angle, so difference might not be noticable by photo.
after seeing this difference I will be keeping with the change out.
AND BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS VIEWED THIS THREAD.
I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD REACH THIS HIGH 5700 VIEWS.
THANKS.

Hello everyone,

so I was really thinking about breaking down my tank, but after many pm;s, calls and a few visits, from some real good friends I have decided to keep the reef going.
I have had some great growth and color on most colonies since the last pics.
as well as a few new pieces added at the first of the month.
Should have some pics up, when I have some free time.

Thanks again, you know who you are.

What's your experience been like with the striped damsel? I've heard nothing but negative things about these fish but i *still* want a few in my tank. I imagine if they scrap it's a problem with smaller fish but tangs should have nohing to worry about right?

The way your corals are evenly growing up reminds me of that scene in star wars where the compacter is about to crush everyone. The fish will be in really shallow water soon at the rate you seem to be growing these sticks!

well, the striped damsel i got after seeing a pic of Iwan's tank of switzerland, its insane, and he had a SD there. so i went out and got one, i really like the color of the fish, and he has been good, other than biting me everytime i get close to his nest, and darts at the other smaller fish every once in awhile, doesnt bother with the tangs.
if i had a choice to keep or remove him, i would remove him and have tired to get him out in the past, with no luck. so its up to you if u want to try one or a few. i think the more you have the more the battle would be on, IMHO.

and yeah, the sticks are growing alot. i found that 15-16 inches from the light i get the best growth.

As Borat would say, "Veddy niiiice!"

So I dropped by Red Coral today to pick up some ZeoBak which I needed for Saturday dosing, Kevin had this xpressed out from Vancouver which was very impressive for LFS to do. Great Job Kevin BIG THANKS.

zeovit carbon is also in stock now

http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/rr329/lobsterboy1000/IMG_0669-1.jpg

I also decided to get out of the stoneage and picked up a refractometer from Kevin as well, as I was still using an Instant ocean swingarm hydrometer that I bought 3years ago. I just tested my salt levels and it was at 30ppt  super happy that I got it, it could have been a diaster.

http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/rr329/lobsterboy1000/IMG_0671.jpg

also, 2 pieces of liverock, to cover up a cord from a powerhead.
I never bought LR from Red Coral before, I gotta say I never seen liverock coming from a LFS with soooo many pods on it before the rocks were crawling them well as well as deep purple coralline. another great score.

and one last SPS, a nice redish orange digi

Needless to say Kevin and the staff at Red Coral have always been great to deal with and keep uping the anity for LFS's.

BTW, RC just got the new CORAL magazine for this month.

I was a big fan of stags earlier this year for their growth, as well as monits and birdnests, but now leaning towards, clustering SPS like stylos, and porites, some of the natural reef pics I seen are pretty dope.

yeah that monolithic style coral, haha, i thought i was strong enough to with stand is power, it kept telling me, "buy me, buy me" , in the end, i was weak.
haha.
its starting to do, nothing, i did have to move it twice now, so i will give it a week or two, and see what happens.

eh Kien, all your SPS are sick, great picks.

and finally i gave in to getting it.

that pic was taken a few weeks ago, so the color has changed a bit since then, I did do a WC last night, and noticed that the polyps are turning a bit flourencent green.

well, today i finally was able to take some pics of the tank.

I used the eshopps coral viewer for the top downs, and the pics are taken with a canon power shot, also no actincs.

I found that the colors are most intense since i stopped dosing zeospur.

also i have stopped dosing K+ for the time being.

I also started having to stack and move some colonies as its getting pretty full in there and finding that some corals are shading each other now and causing lack of flow.

here are so pics taken a few minutes ago.

Thanks all for the nice words.

I am breaking that rule eh, it just keeps goin up. The closest SPS to the surface is 3inches, and the next closet is 5inches.
while the deepest SPS is on the front sandbed which is 20inches from the surface.

Here a FTS, I thought I had included one.

What kind of Gorg is that? It's perty.

haha, ??????????

yeah i have been doing iron 2 drops per once a week and the greens have been much better. i think actiinc lighting would help this also.

and i do dose PIF, just increased it to 2 times a week at 4 drops per 125gal.

Actinic is great for cheating, but you should be able to get the same results with blue bulbs. AquaScience 22000K and Fiji Purple have been doing a good job for me. :D Although I have a third T5 that I've been thinking of putting a true actinic in...

Hi John,

Great to see them in your tank and looked like they landed well. Did the Stylo fall off it's float during shipping?

The Setosa looks amazing in person doesn't it?

I'm sure they will grow wonderfully for you as it looks like your tank is in top notch shape. I've seen what Zeovit can do and it can bring out amazing colors. Great job with your tank.

I got your PM and will let you know what else is coming around the corner.

Thanks again for your business!!

Cheers,

:P

I seen john add a coral one day to his tank, he has this big lit magnifier glass.

He inspects each inch of the coral.

Its one of those one you see in the doctors office, and makes the corals look about the size of a loaf of bread.

Im almost certain if he was to dip one it would totally need it.

Was kinda funny john crosslegged on the floor big ol magny glass out peering onto a coral looking for bad guys.

Peace john, heya doug

You almost have to dip everything now a days, so many irresponsible reefkeepers. I know ive seen you with iodine on your hands before.
Should be more like yourself and john in the industry.

None taken.

Dipping corals is definitely sage advice for every body. Only concern with the monti eating nudis is that their eggs aren't affected by the dip until they evolve to adulthood.

At the present moment there is an embargo on my montis until this pest is cleared away. Luckily they stay away from Setosa

For every one else who may be concerned, all the zoos that have been shipped in the last few weeks are not affected as they are controlled in another tank.

Thanks,

:P
