72x24x20 all starphire glass, except the over flow which is black acrylic.
I will post more pics, as they upload and i still have to vaccum to clean up the cuttings from the plumbing.
Big thanks to Seamazter (Garry) for helping out with the plumbing) awesome.
So there is very few things to do before getting water into this bad boy:
hook up return pump.
wipe out tank.
So by saturday it should see water.

well a quick picture less update.
I got water, salt, aquascape and started the zeo system last night.
so hopefully with the 14 day cycle i can start to get things stocked here quickly.
The vortech wall works like a charm, its awesome, i just need to make a plug to cover the bottom intake holes. I have a design in mind and should have this done within the next few days.
The skimmer is over flowing like mad, but I think this is due to being brand new mixed salt, and epoxy used for the aquscape.
I am chatting with Mike, the skimmer guru, and he gave me a few ideas that i will try out tonight after work.
And I cannot believe how clear starphire glass is, its way way different that I had ever expected, I am so happy with this tank.
pictures will come tomorrow, after I finish the electrical, I have amillion cords that I have to hid.

see i didnt know that you were using putty either. That is going to explain on why its over flowing too. open the skimmer full on the water level run it as low in the chamber as you can. and open the volute to about 4-5 turns out this is goign to allow the skimmer to run super dry and pull the trace elements out of the water from the putty.

Anyway - the tank looks great.

Hey Brad
I still have alot of coral to go back in, and this was most of my previous live rock, there was very little left.
I think there should be enough room for the corals to all fit in again, I will be stocking it with more stylos and poccis, than any other corals, I would like to have a more natural look, fewer corals but larger in size.
yes, the rock was predrilled then washed in a seperate saltwater bath, then epoxy, then the rod, then started skewering the rock, it was alot easier than I expected.

well they are preforming pretty well, just ask the sand bed, lol.
in my previous tank, i had 3 vortechs on full gas 24/7
this time around with the open areas of the tank, i turned them to be on sync and anti sync reef crest mode, i have found this way I am still getting the flow I need and the sand is not blowing a storm.
I do think that when I start to stock thing up with coral, I could return the setting to full gas as the flow will be reduced with all the colonies.
and I got the cutters from a green house in the Bowness area about a year ago. Support the cause.
I am sure Doug knows the name of it, as thats his neck of the woods.

well the first fish was not a sand sifter, it was two clowns that orginally came from Cory (alberta reefer) they had been at Teatro for the past while and i had recently caught them to bring them home.
I have since added a few SPS, a zoa frag and a toad stool leather frag.
and my two fungia plates.
all seem to be doing well, polyp extenison is great, color is still a bit bland after all the moves which was totally expected as well the algae bloom, haha.

hey everyone, how has everyone been ? I have been out of contact for while, back and ready to roll now.
tank progress has been abit slower, due to work and schedules.
The 14 day zeovit cycle has finished, still some hair algae but no biggie.
I am waiting on some Hawaiian yellow tangs to take care of this, they will be added to the stocking list which consists of blue green chromis, 2 occi clowns, I would have added an orange spot sand goby, but only after 24hrs he was to cool for the tank and bailed to the carpet.
coral stocking consists of a few mixed frags, all are doing great and even showing some signs of growth this early in the game, and I am super stoked at the coloration I am getting already, some real hot pinks and purple are coming out on some browned out SPS.
I think the starphire glass gives more true coloration as its so clear, it was really worth the xtra coin, the fish look like they are just hanging in mid air. Too cool.
Here is an updated photo.

Thanks guys,
yes, i am addicted to stylos, I did meet up with 24 storm today (huge thanks to him for holding onto my stuff till i was ready, the tank would look quite bare with Keiths help) and added a few poccis back to the mix.
everything is quite browned out after the move, tottally expected, so now the waiting game, coloration.

Thanks for the comps everyone.
I did my first change of the zeolites lastnight, the water is abit more clear today, but I did only see it for a minute.
The hair algae is still living, but not thriving. Coral coloration is coming slowly, except for these two stylos I have, they are getting their bright on.
I got two pics one with the t5 lighting and the other after the lights were off.
And last is a FTS.
also anyone have a good idea for sand cleaner ? or sifter ?
I have quite abit of open sandbed and some maintance keepers would be a great next addition.
anyways here are a few pics from the past two days.

Dont tell the local fishshops, but thats my plan, just sticking with the current corals, there is an austrea in the back that may get removed later, but it will be replaced with a stlyo or pocci, so Only a few more fish will be added which I kinda have picked out already, just waiting for them to be avaible all at the same time.

wow, love the new tank John. My favorite sand cleaner is the conch. I have a couple different kinds and they do a great job, and don't stir any sand up into the water. Plus I think they are a really cool looking animal. Mine last a lot longer than the snails do too.

Agreed. I bought 10 about 10 months ago and still have all of them. They are really cool looking and I haven't touched my sandbed since day one. I have some nassarius snails as well. You don't see those guys until you feed or when the lights are out.

Hey everyone, wow, time flies by quickly eh.
How is everyone doing? I am sure everyone is busy with the summer and now the end of summer.
Work has kept me busy these past few weeks, working on some new recipes, which include, edible candy wrappers, one bite egg's benedict, powdered bacon, liquid olives, and the list goes on.
so not to bore you with that, the new system is talking off, I have finally seen some growth on most of all the corals now, and 99.9% of them have colored up, to what they used to be and a few are even better in color.
I did remove a few pieces of liverock from the right hand side of the tank, as that big stylo was bugging me, it looked stuck out from the base.
as well, if i didnt mention it before, I turned up the flow rate on the zeo RX, I have never done this in the past, but always wanted to try it, and so while some colors are slamming, others are a bit washed, so Its back to the drawing board for doising schedules.
No new fish have been added, i am waiting for a shipment of Hawaiin yellow tangs to make the tank. except for some nass snails which I picked up from Red Coral a few weeks ago, thanks Kevin and Doug for those, they are really doing a great job. The sand is more clean and turned. so its finally started to look like a reef, he is a recent photo. liek I said Pinks and purples are slamming, and I just started up dosing Iron, to try and kick up the green hues on my scroll and table.

yeah, these colors are not that normal compared to my last system.
the pinks and purples are almost neon, while the greens and blues are lacking abit FE, and K+

So heres the dosing schedule: Based on 150gal.
daily morning and nightly 1ml zeostart
coral Vita - 5drops
amino acid cc - 2 drops
phols xtra- 3ml
monday: 3ml B-Balance
tuesday: 5 drop potassium Iodide fluoride
wednesday: 5 drop sponge power, 5 drop zeofood, 5 drop zeo bak
thursday: 3 drop iron|
friday: 5 drop Jodi komplex
saturday: 5 drop stylo pocci glow, 5 drop zeofood, 5 zeo bak
sunday: 1-3ml K+
carbon 1.5 cup changed out every two weeks
waterchange: every two weeks 10%
Ca and KH values, are approx, 34g KH daily and 24g Ca daily. these values are fluxing about 4g each test.
What the heck is aerated chocolate? Reminds me of some bad diapers I've changed John...
I thought you would have know, as they include some of your favorite things, chocolate, oil and a vaccum. LOL.
aerated choclate, is simply a home made aero bar, but way better as you can use high quality chocolate, and instead of this thin little bar of it you can make a brick size piece, which is insane to bite into.
in my tests, milk chocolate doubled in size compared to :
60% dark chocolate
72% dark chocolate

I used the zeolites, for frag plugs a few times, and used them to seed the Teatro tank. other than that they go to the trash.
I did hear about a guy down in the states that used them for a pathway in a garden. Kinda cool idea.

Its on the left hand side of the pictures, and the area is 18 x 20 x 8in water depth.
I was first thinking t5s, but then thought about a 150wt mh. then
I seen those vipers 70wt but wasnt sure if they would be worth it or not.
LED did come to mind as well, LOL. pretty much any kind of light came to mind, but i cant nail anything down.

yeah just some Boston aquafarm plugs and disks that i had for a while and once i set up the new system i added them in during the cycle so if they had any p04 it would be dissolved by the time SPS hit the water.
if i go with t5s then it woul dhave to be a 24 in fixture.

Yeah I took it off as i found it sticking when trying to stir the zeolites, it works way better for stirring now.
I still dose outside the RX to get taken up by the pump.
oh yeah start3, I knew they were going to make this more user friendly,

Hi, just tagging along! Love the tank man!
Did you ever end up deciding on what type of lighting to go with for your frags?
One more question, sorry to derail...I didn't see a fuge in your sump. Do you think they are unneccesary?

Thanks, I did kinda come up with a few ideas for the frag tank, its going to be ghetto for the next little bit until i can come up with something.
So for now its being lite by a viper 70wt MH, and a double hagen glo fixture.
well see how it goes for the next bit, but the curretn frags seem to be reacting positive.
yeah, there is no fuge, I am using the zeovit system and a fuge is not neccessary, I did use one in the past when not on zeo, and I felt that it did help, there were alot of pods and algae to take up nutrients.

yeah eh, its been awhile, new tank, new setup. Thanks for the comp.

Hey everyone, abit of an update. so I have been busy with the tank the last few days.
I did something that I thought I would never do, i got a CLAM, me and clams dont have the best relationship, so when one came avaible through another reefer who was living in the same building as me, I thought to give it a try.
Its mounted up high on a rock and off the sand bed in hopes that SPS will kinda crowd it as they both grow, well see what happens :twised:
afews other made the tank this past weekend as well.
monitipora nodosa
green caulastrea
kinda blue green millepora, its still to new to tell which way it will go
crayloa tabletop, which I think is going to go staight green, which would be cool. I have pics, and that one too is dark, but give it two weeks in zeo and well see.
tested the p04 tonight and its down to zero, which I am very pleased as the new tangs have been getting fed everytime I pass the tank.
Kh dosing is 25g and 34g per night.
Ca is a steady go between 42g and 28g per morning.
I am still doing it manually.
ok pictures.
you can kinda see half the clam in this one, as well the nodosa and the cauly

So I am going to decide not to keep the green scroll, and the same goes for the yellow. I like the yellow a bit more, but i think its time that I let go.
a few days ago, one of the tangs got stuck to the vortech, i was able to peel him off, and has been doing good, looking abit thin, then a day ago, i noticed that there was increased aggression towards him.
I was lucky enough to spot him tonight while cleaning the glass, he was totally in daze mode, and scooped him in one litre jar, to relocate to the sump for now.
he is down there chilling with a viper k2, and some browned out frags, nippin on some nori, all he is missing is the silver chain that says "yallo"

Poor little tang, glad you were able to rescue him and that he's doing better now.
The tank looks amazing as it is, but taking the scrolls out will free up a lot of space. However I do like the look of them and I imagine it will be hard to part with them since you've had them for awhile.

This happened in my previous tank as well, the yellow tang would graze the side of the power head, and with a high volume of water being drawn in, and their circular body it can spell disaster.
IMO, even a healthy fish would have a hard time trying to free themself, if fully pinned.
so to prevent this from occuring again:
1. clean left hand exposed vortech more frequently
2. added a more central grazing spot

Hey everyone, hope all is well with you.
Its been awhile since I posted an update, work and life has been really busy as of late.
ya know when you start to look at your reef and you want to change it just a bit, well i had that feeling awhile ago, and removed the left and right hand bommies in my tank. So there are a few scattered Sps, soft and LPS corals in those spots now. Photos, of the tank now look very strange, and I am going to try and take a piece of rock from the sump and place it above so it doesnt look so barren.
I have the vortechs set to a wave mode, something I really didnt like at first but its really grown on me, hence the soft corals (kenya tree).
I did some fragging a few weeks back, and an end result was the lose of nearly all my hot pink stylos, I am really not sure why they bleached after fragging as all was inline, so i guess it was that they are a sensitive coral and didnt want to be fragged.
so no new FTS, until I get the live rock back up from the sump. Here a few corals that are going to be removed from my system.

That yellow is off the chart!! Sorry to hear about the stylo's .. that sucks. They're one of my favourite .. too bad they're not that common or hardy apparently.
Hope to one day see this tank in person, or at least a video of it when you're ready.
Do you vacuum your sand?

Doug and I were talking tonight wondering where you have been. Looks like you have been a mad scientist on that one side of the tank.

no, I dont vacuum the sand, but I do stir it. I do this when post filter sock change, leave it for a day then stir up anything that might be left on top the sand bed,

I am on the fence of what I will do on either side, if anything.
I have some time tomorrow to play around abit so maybe some new pics tomorrow.

Is that yellow one a pocilliopora damicornis? It's off the wall!
Looking forward to the FTS - I'm sure you'll figure out something brilliant.

Yeah it was a find, almost bleached out, really pale green when I got it, and now its finally attached, and colored up.
I did get some work done on the tank today, and then got side tracked.
I am stoked at the way it looks now, still alittle more work, clear out some sandbed corals, then FTS.

LOVE the look of this tank!!! I like the middle island the best. It has these ledges and overhangs in it and really looks like a real reef. My second most favourite feature of your aquascaping is the contrast between bommies and open sand areas. The left bommie for some reason ... it is a little out of place on account it's way less busy than the other two bommies. Realize this is because of the scroll coral needs its own like that but there's something missing on that side somehow. It still looks good though, but it needs some more things around it maybe.

Awesome like always John. I love your plating corals I wish I had both room and the corals to do that. I think a nice big swaying SOFTIE in front of the left island. I snagged a giant frag of Greg's corky finger today....that'd be sweet behind or in front of it!
I really like the open look John. I am excited to see HUGE colonies as they've got so much room to grow! Good job!

thanks for the input and comps guys.
Brett I did have that in mind to do a gorg in the tank, I picked up two frags last week but havent placed them yet, I would like to try and hold out to see if i can find something i tad bigger though.
thinking on trying another couple of gobies, in particular an orange spot sand sifter and a rainford, anyone have trouble with this combo ?
I had gotten some platys from Jay (reefcanada) a while back and they have done really well, so i might be trying a few more if i can find some nice ones again.

Cool, thanks for that... I need to get re-edumacated on where Zeovit's at these days.. any idea what's different about start3 over start2? I can't wait to try some of this stuff out again when the new tank is ready. I don't have your knack of aquascaping, I've been at it for weeks and I've progressed to a "strong dislike" of what I've done so far, which I guess is an improvement over "hate it" but man it's a slow process.
With this new tank did you do all those dosings right away or did you ramp into all that?

ahh come on Tony, just get the drill out, some rods and expoxy and then bam. Rock work done. I dunno I guess it takes time, I did change mine out even after it was set up for a few months, start with something fresh and then go from there. It cant be that bad, can it ?
For start3, all i have read is that, it is more user friendly and that there is less chances of diatoms blooms when using this, when compared to start 2.
so less chances of over dose.
there are a few other new products that came out as well, but its the start3 that i really want to try.
yeah it pretty much ramped up to this, minus the dosing of k-balance which two months ago I was dosing quite heavy, then really turned it back.

Ah the building part is easy and kinda fun, the "liking the end result" part seems to be a little more elusive. It's no "Lobsterboy" Zen I'll tell you that!!

Neat, we'll have to watch for that. If you notice some in please post about it. :)
