Can't blame a guy for trying:biggrin: I have the same thing going on with my valentini puffy, I suspect him for nipping at any blue clam and causing it injury enough that the Bristol worms move in and finish it off. He is now in the FOWLR as of a few hr ago.

Yep and don't you forget it!

How can I?.....you wont let me:razz::mrgreen:

after I lost the clam from the "little bastard",as he's not so affectionately been nic-named, I moved all the clams I could into the small tank(had to move a few acans in to the big tank)......I lost one of the clams I moved two days later, so that makes two confirmed kills for my "beauty".....the whole scenario has me thinking about plumbing in the cube I have sitting empty in my living room, like I originally planned...

But wow on the corals and a big huge double wow on the SuperRainbowMan Monti. If you ever decide that thing needs a 1/4" chunk taken out of it please let me know. :)

I have 5 now but have lost several last year. Found out my Val puffer started to have a taste for clam but only enough to case injury so then the Bristol worms would move in and finish the job. Now any time I spot a Bristol worm out come the tweezers and out goes the worm. The last one injured by the puffer is recovering nicely, it's mantel is out 3 times more then it ever was.

Actually, we should look into a fedex over night some time from your place to mine.. if I can be sent berghia nudibrachs overnight from Texas to Ontario via fedex, from Calgary to Ontario shouldn't be a problem.

UPS on the other hand.. would just screw stuff up.

Your tank is sooo nice though, I love looking at the pics.

probably best to wait for the thaw.....and for some of my stuff to get bigger:wink:

I think we're due for a FTS!

well the glass is dirty and the over-all appearance hasnt changed all that much.....just a tank full of wee frags that are barely visable to the naked eye:lol:......I'll get on it soon.....need to take one for the 2011 FTS thread anyway....

heres a couple pics from the small tank, including a new friend for my blue assessor....I thought that my one expensive fish that I never see could use the friendship of another expensive fish that Ill probably never see.....a BSJ (blue spotted jawfish)....he shocked the heck out of me and actually found a spot right up against the front glass:biggrin:........ what is it about cameras????......I sit back and watch the fish and they are all out and about.....I put my face to the glass and there is an initial reaction of fear from my ugly face then they quickly settle down and go about their business.....but put a camera up in front of your face and.....WHOAH!!!!! WTF is that thing???? OMG its gonna get me!!!!!.....run for your life!!!!...... anyway best pics I could get so far....I might try leave the camera in front of the tank on the tri-pod for a couple days to let him get used to it....

Love the porcelain crab too. Man I miss mine, had two, one that I bought, one that hitched in on something. The hitchhiker was a little like that last one you pictured, but with more red and orange. The bought one was the typical whitish one. Guess like anything over time they get old .. 3 or 4 years for the one and maybe 5 on the other. You don't seem to see them offered up for sale hardly ever anymore. Could be that I'm just not looking in the right places in the right times mind you.

well some "up" news and some "down" news......

first the "up"..........I decide that the little Hagen Glo lights that I was using on the small tank were....um.....lacking......so I kicked things up a notch with a TEK 24" 4 bulb unit....the wattage didnt change( as I was running two, 2 bulb Glos), but the reflectors alone should make a big difference......that and now the lights on both the tanks match*said in a male hairstylist/designer type voice*

the other "up" thing is I picked up another feather duster....RC got some Hawaiians in and I took one that is almost completely white except for the middle which is an orangey/brown

now for the "down" news.......*sigh*.....and then there was two......I lost another clam:sad:.....that leaves me with two........I dont know whats worse.....loosing everything all at once(which really sucked)....or slowly loosing all of one particular thing over weeks, feeling helpless........I thought I would post a shot of my last remaining crocea (while I still can)...

That is one sweet duster dude, I had 2 as well but one died off for some strange reason. But the up side was my guy Ryan at Big Als replaced it for free with 2 dusters that where growing together.

The downside for me as well is I too am down to 2 clams now. The latest clam to go was my very first clam I had purchased, it had sponge, mushrooms and little coco worms on the shell.

One day when your going past Red Deer area it would be great to have you stop by and give me a few pointers to help me get some SPS going and living.

I seen those as well. Im pretty sure they are an acan even though they came in with the micros.

acans and micros are soooo closely related.....micros tend to have a smaller head size and appear slightly smoother than acans....have a look here at a google search I did.... http://www.google.ca/images?q=micromussa&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1280&bih=802.....scored that one from Blueworld in E-town

I love them too....I have three purples and one white that Girly scored for me in E-town(pic to follow).....we've had the in, in the past.....I could ask Kev to get some in for ya mang....that is, if you dont think that they would get lost in that big beautiful beast of a tank of yours?....

That'd be awesome, please and thank you. I suppose they might get lost in the big tank but don't they sort of have territories? The white porcelain I had just lived in the green carpet, so hopefully they'd shack up in there.

Loving that feather duster. Might have to find me some room for one myself!

Dusters are lovely though :)

That is one sweet duster dude, I had 2 as well but one died off for some strange reason. But the up side was my guy Ryan at Big Als replaced it for free with 2 dusters that where growing together.

Im realizing that I have a serious weakness for critters.....like feather dusters, pom poms, porcelains, sexies, etc

One day when your going past Red Deer area it would be great to have you stop by and give me a few pointers to help me get some SPS going and living.

might just have to do that sometime but, feel free to pick my brain anytime bud

Hey no worries mang.....Ive been meaning to ask Kevin if he could do a nano-critter type order....I need me some more sexies.....ya they do tend to find an area and hang there....as you could see in the pic my white porcelain lives under my octospawn, which he shares with my sexy shrimp...

words cant describe how it feels huh?.....I dont think I will be adding any clams any time soon.....not sure if I had a clam disease or pathogen or if it was just to soon to put clams in the tank after the crash......either way there is a possibility that I will be moving again in the near future so the tank probably wont see any new bivalves for a while(o0f course Ive said that before about other thing and the reneged).....

Just a quick note about those feather dusters -
Those guys feed on phytoplankton. (or is it zooplankton..)
Anyways, when you first get them they have a fairly large "crown" but will shed it for a smaller one to possible adapt to less food being available.
They will live longer if you could maybe feed them some DT's.

Grizz,

Have you noticed if yours is actually consuming the brine shrimp and growing?
The larger feather dusters can collect larger food particles, but only seem to bind them in mucus and expel them in their faeces.
They do really only digest phytoplankton.

Since it came from a zeo tank I'm *really* hoping it holds that pink. I've been drooling over it before it starts to fade to brown haha. Most of my corals actually came from zeo tanks (john's and dez's) and surprisingly I have done pretty well at salvaging a little colour.

I believe most of the acro's we like to label as millepora are actually prostrata. Whether I believe a coral to be prostrata or millepora I usually just call them all millepora because that is what most people relate to.

Doug, how the heck did you get a fish hitchhiker?

I've gotten a fish hitchhiker before. Truly amazing too, I meet up with a guy in a store parking lot once years ago (I was buying live rock from him) and the guy was coming in from out of town. When I met him he had a Styrofoam box full of live rock for me and the box had less then an inch of water in the bottom of it. When I got home and started to unpack it all I noticed something moving around in the bottom of the box. Low and behold it was a lawnmower blenny :surprise: The very small amount of water in the bottom of the box was cold, I still have no idea how the blenny survived until I found him hours after the live rock had first been packed.

kinda an interesting story Lance.......I have no idea where it came from.....I didnt even know I had it......when I was tearing the tank down to move it is when I found the fish.....all the rock was out and we were in the process of netting out all the fish when we noticed it.....I was like, "WTF is that!..I didnt add that fish.....what the hell kinda fish is that fish?" .....only thing I can think of is it came in on either a coral(highly unlikely, I thought) or in some rock.......I started trying to think when the last time I added any rock to the display and it was at least a year before I moved....this fish spent a year in my display without me seeing it.....freakin amazing, I thought....Mikey(who helped me move the tank) later found a link to what kind of fish it was.....I will go back in my journal here and find it.......anyway, in then died the following day when the tank crashed......kinda a crappy way for this fish that survived a ride home in a plastic bag with no water, then managed to live in my tank for a year without me seeing it, to die

oh, there is algae in there:wink:......little bit o volonia here and there....and some kind of caulerpa algae growing in the eggcrate at the top of the overflow......you just need to be selective about composition with your pictures so as to not get any algae in the shot:wink:

call me a glutton for punishment......I couldnt resist the lure of the clam (no Greg Im not moving to E-town(yet:wink:))......even after losing ten clams in three weeks I decided to try a couple of the wee maximas that came into RC recently......not the best shots because the little clams were still really sensitive to movement and kept retracting every time I moved the camera.....gotta hate a sensitive clam:wink:......Ive got my fingers crossed that these do well....at least they were relatively cheap.....the little blue one is an "ultra" grade and the other two are "A" grade.....

I totally admit that this winter has royally sucked. I also agree that Calgary is a beautiful city, but my family and friends are in Edmonton, as well as I've been at the same job for 11 going on 12 years, I get lots of vacation time and good benefits which would be hard to pass up but sometimes change is good too. I also own my house in Edmonton and I hate the process of always keeping the house clean etc. when trying to sell it (went through that with my condo) and I also have moved around enough to know I absolutely hate packing!!!! Doug rents right now, and either way he would have to move (his rental doesn't allow pets and I have 2 dogs and a cat) so he should move here  Easier said then done, I know

Yep Fiji would work too babe  and don't worry we entertain Tony to much and we make his life more interesting by keeping him on his toes, so there's no way he'd want to get rid of us

I've spent two day reading this entire thread. :shocked!: WOW!!!

I started, not realizing how long it was, as I just bought a 110 and was hoping for some pointers.

Not only did I get so much info and knowledge, that I hope to put to good use, I just wanted to say thanks, and I hope my tank will look half as good as yours. :thumb:

Keep up the good work :)

aw man!......you weren't supposed to notice the bubble algae

ya that favia is pretty sweet......one of my faves for sure......had always wanted a piece and finally found some......

well I mentioned before that I bought an I-Box nano......after some humming and hawing about it for awhile...... I came to the conclusion that I spend to many weekends away to leave a pico running unattended.......as it stands now, I can go to E-town for the w/e and pretty much leave the system without worrying about it.....I just over fill the sump with r/o make sure the r/o reservoir is full and its not that big of a deal for the fish not to eat for a day or two.....I also turn off the skimmer, just in case.....Im worried that a pico tank might not take to well to not being topped up for two or three days......................................... so............................................I decided Ima gonna plumb it in to the main system......is that cheating?......is it still considered a pico tank if it has a 150g sump?.....I brought home some 1/2" plumbing parts and starting looking at the space in the back chamber and I think I can do a herbie in this little tank......both drains and the return will be drilled through the back and the return will use the existing, although slightly enlarged hole(normally I dont much care for an enlarged hole:wink:)) for the stock return.......Im thinking I'll use a power-head of some make with around 250 gph for a return pump.....after head loss, that should be more than enough flow for a 2.5g tank.......I need some parts so I can see if I really can make this happen.....the overflow area is a tight little space,(much prefer tight little spaces, in some cases:wink:) so I may need to get my hands on a few more pieces to see if I can make it work.....stay tuned:mrgreen:

I added a melenarus wrasse a couple weeks ago.....he spent the first two days getting chased into the overflow by my angel......I thought briefly that it was a bad decision....and the poor wrasse was gonna end up on the floor, but after the initial "jump in" period he has settled in quite nicely and none of the rest of the crew even knows he exists....

Thanks Lance......the little tank is a valonia garden.......not to mention an aiptasia ranch....the two tanks side by side are a stark contrast......big tank has like two aiptasia and a little bit of bubble......I guess crap loads of flow and a tank full of algae eating fish makes all the difference in the world.....
