I'm running 2-2" Durso but loud compared to a tank I heard with 2-1.5" Herbies running about twice my flow. Only noise is where the water goes over the weirs. Other plus with Herbie is no gurgling in the sump.

Herbie...100% quiet, the only time I can hear it is if the water gets low from evaporation and I can hear the water from the skimmer, thats it.

Here is a link, just scroll down, lots of info on RC too.

One suggestion that many on here will agree with....use a gate valve NOT a ball valve. Even if you have to order one from J&l/Oceans, get one, it will save you time.

Hope that helps!

I agree with the gate valve only comment. I annoys me when people come into Herbie method discussions complaining that it didn't work for them and that they tried it with a ball valve - its like trying to push a square box through a circle.

A ball valve does work, it's just a real PAIN IN THE ***

I have used a ball-valve for 4+ years on my herbie, works great.

I think it should be called something other then a Herbie, cause I invented it w/o any help from Herbie.........it's true!

A gate vale is better thought, much better.
