Chaeto. Algae in Main Tank?

Is it possible to grow chaeto in the display tank if you dont have a refuge?

I've seen tanks that have some in the overflow chamber.

I keep chaeto in our 120g under MH lighting. It's attached to a small rock with an elastic. It grows so well I have to prune every 3 weeks.
