Where is the best place to get Bulbs in town. I am a Anti-Creditcard guy so on-line is not really an option. I am looking for 2 400 watt Bulbs.

Also colour spectrum. 6500 K are available at Quick Grow. would I be terribly unhappy with these if I had Actintic (SP?) supplimentation? These things are really cheap compared to the "Aquatic" types. I don't currently have any SPS, Although who knows what may pop up on the rock I am getting from Alan  Perhaps I should just go with the 20K bulbs, then supplimentation will not be required

Hey Robb, any where in Calgary that you could buy MH bulbs is going to be way over priced compared to online stores.

Afraid I have to concur on that one. MO is the way to go for lamps. I've gotten my bulbs from J&L, saltwaterconnection.com and premiumaquatics.com. Another place to check is oceanaquatics.com. Maybe see if they can invoice you and you can then send them a cheque instead of using a credit card. Or perhaps paypal or interac email transfers. Can't hurt to ask!

Try Ivan at aquaria.ca - he has let me use e-transfers before. If you have online banking, you're good to go. And he has those Arc MH bulbs at reduced prices. They seem to love 'em in central Canada...

I have used Paypal and also sent cheques to Wendell at Ocean Aquatics

You went from 400w to 150w? what size tank are you going to use there on?

I was going to use 400', as they are the Cheapest, most common ballasts. The Tank is Alans (soon to be my) 110. The origional plan was for 2 400 watt mounted high so the spread would cover the full length of the tank, however for this price I can get 3 150 watt DE bulbs, to cover the six feet of length.

3 of those over a 20" deep, 6-ft tank will be sweet.

does he have reflector assemblies too?

Why dont you wait for the 250's (or the 400's)? Ivan says that they're coming very soon.

I would hold out for the 250 watt DE's and see how much more they will be.

Do you really think I need this much juice? I still consider my self a noob as far as marine is conscerned. I was under the impression that 150 watt DE were somewhat equivalent to a 250 watt SE. Am I way off base here?

I think 150 DE are closer to 175 SE. 250 watts either way will be more light. If you want to keep SPS and get there colours to come out nicly i would wait for 250s

The 150's are nice lamps but you don't get a lot of spread out of them. For a 20" tall tank they might still be OK. I have a 150W over a 20g tank, 20000K lamp. Nice lamp, nice colour, but really (at least at that colour temp) not quite a lot of light. A 10000K or a 14000K lamp might be a neat choice though.

Robb, it depends what you want to keep. Here is a very nice tank lit by 2 - 150W 10,000K DE bulbs - forget what kind, I think AB. It is eposer's tank from a couple years ago. Beautiful tank, ask anyone who saw it.

I think he had a Spacelight about 8" off the water. Looks like a pretty successful tank, he even had clams on the sandbed at a depth similar to your new tank.
