So after 2 years of having my first reef tank(75g). I made plenty of mistakes such as placement, terrible rock work, massive negligence, very long process of doing water changes I have decided enough is enough. Old tank was right beside 3 windows so it was being blasted by that yellow sun on the daily so I can never fully escape algae. After buying a 110g 5 ft tank I told might as well do it once and do it right. So I decided that I would do a in wall tank system. The place where I'm putting the tank has a small room that the previous owners used as a laundry room so I have access to water for easy water changes and can fit a sink in there.

Here's the closet that I'm tearing apart to put my tank inside. Mom was pretty choked lol. She had to find another place for all her pantries and things.

Here's the small room. I wore down the wall

http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b578/kosin604/D01B2B54-6A66-44D9-A3D4-7CC60ADFB5A8_zpsjuf0yzsx.jpg (http://s1292.photobucket.com/user/kosin604/media/D01B2B54-6A66-44D9-A3D4-7CC60ADFB5A8_zpsjuf0yzsx.jpg.html)

Here's pic from where the front of the tank will be. I'm think of leaving all the stud from the small room to the closet intacted because it's a load bearing wall. 16" between each stud should be enough for me to maintain my tank. For the 3 studs on the closet wall will need to be cut in order to put the tank in. I will cut those 3 out then use two 2x4 and brace it horizontal from one end to the other above where my tank will be. I will need to move my electrical switches over to the side a bit and I will build a stand within the closet space and just slide the tank into place. Tank is about 400lbs or so thought so stand will have to be build extra strong. My tank is 1/2"

Tomorrow I will cut and brace the studs.

Tank stand has been build into my house's frame so it will be super strong. I put the tank in to see how it looks and fits. So far I think it's solid. I will now need to take the tank out and cover the inside space with plastic sheets and some of those foam cans so make sure moister and water spash won't mess up my walls and ceiling in the tank space

My project is pretty much completed. I'm currently just mixing the salt water. Tomorrow I will do about 20 gal water change on my old system and putting that water into my new tank to help it cycle a bit faster. For the new system I will be using about 60lbs or so of dry rock that I had bleached and acid bathed about 2 months ago that was cycling in a bin and about 80lbs or so in my current tank. I will slowly add sand and a bit of live rock from my current system each time I do a water change for it. I'm planning to slowly move everything from my old tank to the new in the time span of each week for about 2 months or so. I will reuse all my old sand but of course I will rinse it well in tank water from each water change.

Here's some update pics.
110gal 5ft tank with corner braces and bernie drilled

50gal 4 ft sump that I made with baffles for bubble trapping, a refugium area, and also a large final chamber where I will keep as a frag tank and return pump on the far left.

Wall is repaired and painted. Tank is now in wall. I havnt fully decided what to do with the access space above the tank yet but it will be covered in a sleek way I hope and will be easily removed if needed.

Sink is now installed and fully functional in the fish room. This will be the greatest convienience of all.

Tomorrow I will also go out and buy vinyl flooring to cover the whole room because I know I will surely make a clumsy water spill in the future lol. Fish room is small only 7'x7'

As for my equipment list most stuff will be from my existing setup:
Flow:
2x WP-25( from old setup)
2x hydor 1500 powerheads(mainly just for stirring up dead spots)
Skimmer: vertex in180
Return pump is a quiet one 4000
Doser-marine magic(old system)
Jbj auto top off(old system)
Aquasafecanada 100gpd ro/di
For lighting I was thinking of the ai sols but I would like to try full spectrum. Going to order 2 of these fixtures from ebay. http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=191037175723&category=46314&pm=1&ds=0&t=1421746878113#&panel1-8
For frag tank/ macro algae I will be using my old setup's blue/whites chinese led fixtures. They had no problem keeping all my sps alive in my old 4ft tank so they should be just fine for a 14"x12" chamber in my sump.

In for updates!! Love that pump choice, and some custom cabinet doors would look good above, maybe match your kitchen :)

So for the quiet one pump has not lived up to its name lol. It's pretty damn loud haha. I'm gonna sway away from carbonate doors. I'm trying to make the tank wall seem like it doesn't belong to the house to make it really pop. Gonna add a wood moulding around tank. Already bought it but just need to cut be corners. I'm thinking of just putting a black hard plastic to cover that access and put deco rational things on the ledge.

U should do it!! I can't wait to start filling the tank up with corals.

So what do u guys think about the color spectrum of the lights I'm thinking about ordering? And how about my method of slowly moving over sand n rock from my existing tank? Will that shock my tank and kill my reef/inhabitants? Pros please chime in n stop me if needed lol.

That's strange that the pump is loud, mine is super quiet. I had to tweak the pipe a bit to make it silent but its great. Maybe look at something shiny and black for the cover, like the concepts tank :)

My "Quiet one" was also not very quiet. Now use Eheim and Jebao dc6000. Those are quiet.

i remember the day i brought my laundry tub 'online'. i felt like a god but my wife didn't really understand the thrill lol. her response was "when do i get a new tap upstairs? you have the best one in the house in your fishroom". wall looks so much better already but you're going to have a tough time finding a solution that makes such an opening seamless... good luck!

+1 on the loud quiet ones. they've never been known to be quiet really... had one on my first tank ever.

Anyways I found a giant mark right spank in the middle of my tank!!!
It doesn't feel like a scratch but I can't remove it. It's about 2-3" long

http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b578/kosin604/5ED7C8B3-39BF-43DC-A276-2303BCF5C2A8_zpsjzlvhcyr.jpg (http://s1292.photobucket.com/user/kosin604/media/5ED7C8B3-39BF-43DC-A276-2303BCF5C2A8_zpsjzlvhcyr.jpg.html)

Moulding has been installed. I will be painting it black today.
http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b578/kosin604/77B6D80A-AED5-47DF-80D5-A975E92652DF_zpsy6dk33ne.jpg (http://s1292.photobucket.com/user/kosin604/media/77B6D80A-AED5-47DF-80D5-A975E92652DF_zpsy6dk33ne.jpg.html)

I put 2 pieces of 2x4 up where there's gaps between my studs so evaporation doesnt mess up everything upstairs and I put caulking all around the gaps to make it air tight.
http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b578/kosin604/40BE03E3-C259-4B84-B909-9BD4B56D5E52_zpsfcytk0lh.jpg (http://s1292.photobucket.com/user/kosin604/media/40BE03E3-C259-4B84-B909-9BD4B56D5E52_zpsfcytk0lh.jpg.html)

Put some plastic sheets around my washroom pipeline from upstairs. Also my rock that I had cycling is now in the tank with about 40gal of new mixed salt and about 10 gal of water from my existing tank. I want to make it as close as possible to my old tank so the swap will hopelly not kill any corals. Also put 1 bag of new Fiji pink sand and 1 cup from my old tank along with 2 fist sized live rock from it as well. I will be putting in another 10g old tank water in today as well. Delayed on the vinyl flooring cuz I called around and no stores seems to have a odd ball piece 7x7 laying around so I guess I'll just buy a 12ft n cut it.

Hey guys so my new in wall is now up and running. Just finished my rockwork. I made is so there will be tons of flow and lots of space/caves for fishes to swim n hide in. My old tank's flow was terrible. I pretty much just jammed as much rock as I can in it. Being totally new to the hobby my mistakes caused massive detris to be trapped in every crevice u can think of n flow was horrible. Also my tang barely had room to swim so he always hide except when there's food. Ok now back to my new rockwork. I left the tank very open with tons of ledges so sps can grow n thrive without touching each other too much. For he giant gap in the center I will be keeping all my euphylias there. Left room in front of glass for Lps n zoas etc. when u move my old tank over I will have more work to play With so I can make bridges from 1 end to the other or make the bridge not connect if u can picture it.

Rocks on the right has been glued. Rocks on the left hasn't yet. I tried using fijicrete but it just dissolves instantly when I use it underwater even when I left it almost hardened. I was told it would work. Hope it didn't ruin my water. I ended up using tunze epoxy.

Looks to me like I will not be able to use all the rocks from my old tank. Im gonna have to put as much as I can in the sump n sell the rest. My new rocks r so much more nicer n pourous I believe it's pukani.

Here's existing tank

I put all my dead sps that all died during my tank crash few months ago into the refugium part of my sump. Such a pity a few were very beautiful.

So I finally finished my in wall system and transfered over everything from my old tank to my new all within about 3 hours. Used about 30gal of water from my old tank and swap it to new tank so I won't shock my livestock much. This was a week ago but I'm doing the update now lol. i did a major change in equipment. Upgraded my lights to 2 radions gen 1 and skimmer to a vertex omega 150

I put a removable hard plastic sheet to cover the open space above my tank. I'm rly happy of deciding to have an open space in the front it made life so much easier moving corals around. Also I dropped frags underneath the caves a few times and without the front space it would b rly hard to get them out.

http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b578/kosin604/302306B4-FA0E-4172-9A3E-4C8FA1529240_zps528g4xsi.jpg (http://s1292.photobucket.com/user/kosin604/media/302306B4-FA0E-4172-9A3E-4C8FA1529240_zps528g4xsi.jpg.html)

I loved my new tank and was very happy with how I kept it with a lot of open space for fishes to swim n have better flow. Left gap in the middle for Euphylias. My hippo tang got ich right away when I swapped everything over. It must have stressed him out. But now few days after the few white spots he had on him is all gone n he swims nonstop. No more hiding.

Everything was perfect in paradise until I noticed my sps start to look different...
At first I thought it must be my radions. I had them on 65% radiant color schedule. Turned them down to 50% but still things getting worse. It's nkw at 40% but my tank looks like crap at this low setting. All my LPS are super happy tho and very opened except my hammers n frogspwn in guessing they not used to the change yet.

My green hulk acro that's always super bright green and survived every thing I did to my tank has lost all its color and some large frags of it bleached out.

http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b578/kosin604/1A2D2243-E7BC-4AB7-93B2-0EDEFA6688B1_zpsotfndfmj.jpg (http://s1292.photobucket.com/user/kosin604/media/1A2D2243-E7BC-4AB7-93B2-0EDEFA6688B1_zpsotfndfmj.jpg.html)

My super beautiful bright pink red planet is now very dull as well. My ponape bird nest is pretty much dead and pink lemonade is fully brown.

Here's my pic of my before and after pic of the red planet at the very top and a large frag of the green hulk under it

My giant monster green slimer is now a brown slimer

So I did a water test. Here's my params.
Alk dropped to 7.7 I normally keep at 10ish, cal is at 420 which is normal. Mag dropped to 1000. All test is from salifert test kits. Used my Hanna phosphate and it was at 0.19ppm!!!!!!! I realize I forgot to set up my Gfo and carbon reactor!!! I believe this is what caused my sps downfall. I hope putting it back into service will make things back to normal..

So I did have some recent trouble with my tank and a bunch of sps died but I believe I may have corrected it. I think I finally somewhat fully stocked my tank now just gotta resist the temptation of new pretty things and let them grow. I can't emphasize how great of an idea it was during my planning stage to make my final sump chamber into a frag tank. Helped me acclimate new corals so easily without them frying to my radions. Oh and I bought 5 new fish =). 2 colorful rainbow looking wrasse that I forgot the name of, 1 beautiful male filament wrasse with super long fins and 2 lovely anthias. So far every1 is getting along great.

Here's a pic of all the recent goodies that was in my sump for atleast 2 weeks under par38 to acclimate to radions

I just finish adding all my new corals to the main display 3 days ago and they are accepting the lights perfectly. Here are a bunch of pics.

Splitting tank pics into 3 from left to right.

I glued 2 a red and green monti cap to a magnet in a shape of a heart. Hope it will grow beautifully giving it an awesome floating effect. I left a area in the center sand bed for my euphyllia and zoa garden so they can't attack other LPS or sps

My acid rain bta has already split into 2. So cool. But it doesn't look that great atm. Dunno how long they look ****ty for when they split I have no prior experience with anem's. Here's a pic of it in its prime.

Mine does the exact same thing with both an android and iPad. 2" or so under water and it disconnects.

Been 2 months since my last update. Things are surely growing but slowly. My radions are rly bringing out colors of my sps that were purchased brown out and my old sps changing it to diff colors. The thing about the leds is that the color of my sps intensity is rly from viewing top down. Im thinking of adding T5 to supplement my LEDS. My tank's params has been pretty steady for once lol. I think i FINALLY tweaked my dosers correctly for now. ALK 8.0 Cal 380 Mag 1380

Here's some pics
My lovely plate coral is rly just massive when it fully expands!!

Acid rain rbta did lose some color but they always appear super happy. Does this mean that i should feed more or is it being on sandbed causing it to fade?

Still battling Green hair algae but its not as bad as in my old tank where it killed everything. Also have a diff type of GHA thats only growing on the top rocks. they look like leaves. My red planet that i attached to a rock arm i made from attaching a LR piece with fijicret had broken off by me accidently (very gently nudging it). I seem to have ZERO success with fijicrete as i believe i may have a defective batch. It instantly disintegrates everytime i put some in the tank. Even when attaching 2 pieces of rock outside the water it wont bond for about a full 24 and still breaks if i move it too much. I no every1 else has great success with it but not me.

My scallop is still alive surprisingly. I took it out many times to scrub it of algae but the thing is tough.. Ripped its tentical foot many times as i removed it from the rocks. Brains grew and colored up more as well

My hippo has been going through a lot. Seems to repeatedly get covered in ICH every few weeks then looks completely normal then get it again n heal agian etc.. Now he has a pretty bad eye infection to 1 of his eye and its 3x bigger than normal and looks cloudy. Looks like hes wearing a monocle lol. All other fishes seems to be completely immune to the ich except my hippo. He still eats like a pig tho and shown zero sign of flashing against rocks or anything irregular.
