Default Canreef Frag Sales Policy News

After careful consideration by staff, in conjunction with some members, Canreef has amended it's fragging policies as drafted below. This entry is now added to the FAQ for the board under Canreef Frag Sales Policy.

================================================== ===

In order to further the hobby and encourage captive propagated corals, Canreef will allow frag sales by hobbyists under these conditions;

Seller must not be a business related to aquarium trade
Seller does not have a website where inventory can be ordered online
Frags must be grown by the seller
Seller will not regularly sell other items in a "basement business" fashion, ie; no home made equipment, fish, etc
Seller will not post corals that were purchased for the purpose of fragging to generate a profit (no chop shopping)
Seller will, upon request, provide proof to staff that all frags are home grown. This can be verified by photos of frag tank, encrusted corals, etc, as deemed appropriate.
Seller can ship frags enabling the spread of quality frags across the country.
Seller has no limits on frags, however it is expected home growers will be limited in volume and excessive sales will gain the attention of staff.

Canreef reserves the right to remove any post that contradicts these conditions.

Shipping?

what if we can not ship due to lack of time or experience?

Having the ability to clear up the bottom of the tank of a few broken off, orintentionally fragged bits does not mean I feel confident shipping.

other than that it all seems pretty reasonable.

Can we post a link to a website if there no is no actual purchasing of corals on the website? (I am pretty sure this is what you mean, but I want to double check) I created a website in my spare time for fun, and I put all my coral frags on there. For me it is easier to post a link to website vs. posting a bunch of photos.....

For the most part I think the majority of the sponsors on this forum have no issues with selling of coral frags, it's only a few that are ruining it for the rest of us.... (this can also be said for the few people who are just chopping corals for profits)

Thanks,
Dave

+1

While I understand the premise behind the stipulation, shipping frags is a "big scary" that I wouldn't even consider attempting. Quite simply, it puts me at too much risk: I would be out the frag(s) and the funds if something didn't survive transit and I had to refund.

While companies that regularly ship frags have policies in place to deal with livestock deaths, it seems a onerous for hobbyists.

I believe it means you can ship frags if you so choose to do so.

That's what I thought the first time I read it. The second time I read it differently. I'm just not sure what it means. Hopefully Brad will clarify.

I think you guys are over analyzing this post. It's simply just stating the basic rules of frag selling, if the seller is willing ship they will have the option to do so without having to worry about being banned.

I like to thank canreef and it's staff for allowing us hobbyists to trade and sell home grown frags freely. It will not only generate more interests on the forum but further along this hobby for all of us. Great work guys!

+1 to Rich's comments.

I'd like to recommend a new forum category, perhaps "Coral swap/sell - non commercial" or something? I see this becoming rather popular and may overcome the livestock forum.

I, and I think a few others, have not been posting up frags for sale. Hopefully this will get a greater variety of stuff out there for us and serve the interests of the community . I look forward to seeing what will come up!
Dan

When you put it that way it makes sense to me.
