I'm not too sure I really know what size I need. I do know I need to be able to attach a hose on bother the intake and the output and the pump won't be emerged in water.

Have something like that?

I've found the maxijets need to be submerged to work. just put a piece of 1/2" vinyl tubing on the exit and hold the Maxijet underwater using the intake to suck up all the detritus.
