I try to do this in my tank designs, but those tanks are absurdly nice.

The only think is, you "lose" some space for corals (at least as the tank matures)

I read through the entrie thread on RC, some impressive designs. I plan on going the same route on my next aquarium or when I move this aquarium too my new home next year.

The first tank started off with a good balance on the rock work, then $h1t hit the fan and now it's all Pokemon... JMO

The last one looks VERY promising.

That makes me want to move some rock to my sump! Love the clean look.

I really like less rock AND less coral. That way the few colonies that a person picks can actually grow large and look more 'natural'... I've seen pictures on this forum of more specimens in a 20gal than what I have in a 120gal. This may or may not be a minimalistic aquascape, at this point I think its too grown-in to tell. But it is my favorite all time tank. 273gal with about 30 colonies. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-10/totm/index.php

And that's my favorite part of your tank. Somehow my tank is loaded with various frags with not much room for growth and no room (besides the back glass) for new ones. I never set out to do this but I say 'yes' far more than I say 'no' apparently.
