Now that I have room in my basement I would love to go with a 4' long by 3' wide and 18" deep

8X3X3 for the fish with a nice live coral for the back drop, with a room in behind the tank.

The ideal tank to me is the largest tank you can fit in the chosen location.....Plus 50 gallons.

If you like fish I think the ideal size is 180. Yes this happens to be what I have now, and if I had my way it would be bigger but :

I can keep most tangs (2-3) but I have my species pick besides the really huge ones. I don't have to be overly careful about other small fish. It's still a standard size tank so it wasn't too expensive to buy. I don't need a massive massive protein skimmer ect.

If you don't care much for fish and more for coral. I'd say a cube tank is ideal. As much as I love cube tanks unless I get a 6x6 I wouldn't get one due to the fact I love my achilles tang.

100% agreed, in my area where the tank is set up it would be 5L'X2.5W'X20H" that would fill out that wall,

I thought it was 84 x 32 x 26 but now that i've filled that up...96 x 36 x 28 seems more appropriate. Peninsula of course.
