Once, had a tank that was 6 years old. I stop doing water changes once i notice i didn't need to. It when on for another 5 or 6 years or so. Then one day the light die. I didnt have a replacement or the money for a used one at the time. Used a table lamp for a week before i get a replacement but that was too late...

I have had a heater explode and leak nasty crap into the tank killing most everything. I also have lost power for a week and had a tank die off.

The only crash I had was due to a heater failure of some sort. Heater separated & caused the GFI plug to trip. I was away from the house for a long weekend... temp in the tank was down to around 60F.

I think the only thing that survived was a RBTA.

Thats a shame, how old was the tank? I've never used an aquarium controller, have you considered using or since purchased one?

It was only a couple years old but they put out a recall on them and that was a few years ago now
