Default MP40's vs Tunze 6105's

Trying to decide between 2 of the MP40 or 2 of the 6105 (with the 7095 controller).

MP40

Pros
-No wires in tank
-Wireless linking of pumps

Cons
-Noise
-Flow direction not adjustable
-Reliability isn't stellar.

Tunze

Pros
-Reliable
-Quiet
-Flow direction is adjustable
-Slightly cheaper ($50)

Cons
-Wires in tank
-Lots of wires to connect multiple pumps and controller

I've heard a lot from people with the MP40's and I feel I have a good handle on what to expect from them. I don't know much about the Tunze's though. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with the 6105's....

You pretty much have it spelled out, I'm not sure what you mean by "Lots of wires to connect multiple pumps and controller" for tunzes. As far as I know each vortech requires it's own controller but each controller can communicate with each other without an interconnect cable while tunzes just all plug into one controller. If anything I think you'll have more wires and stuff with the vortechs.

Lots of threads like this already but I run Tunze, I have two 6105s and two 6100s. I run the tunzes purely because they are quite, MP40s would be louder than any other piece of equipment I have.

From what I can gather, for the Tunze, each head has a wire back to the power supply and one to the controller. the controller has 4 wires going to it. I guess it's pretty similar with the Vortechs -except that there are 2 separate controllers, talking wirelessly.

both are good i am also switching over to tunze but if we are talking about that lil 29 gal bowfront you will only get it half full with the wave you can get from either system

Directionality and quietness were the two factors that made me decided to go the tunze (6105) route.

They are both great power heads that do the job, although slightly differently.

I've had terrible luck with the reliability and noise level with the Vortechs. I sold them all at one point and was about to purchase the Tunze. Just couldn't do it. So bought 3 new Vortechs. IMO the Tunzes are big and ugly compared to the Vortechs. Plus hate the look of any wires in my tank. I haven't any bad habits anymore so if I have to buy replacement parts every so often than so be it.

vortech is my vote, they take up less space in the tank and no wires going into the tank is also nice, especially when you want make mesh top for the tank.

all my mp40 runs very well.
