Nope, cause you are disturbing your neighbours that are trying to sleep power out or not. They fine pretty heavily too.

A Honda generator is usually very quiet. If you had it running in a shed or garage and just make sure you don't gas yourself when you go fill it up, it should make virtually no noise that your neighbours can hear.

I just saw that J&L now stocks the AquaTop battery powered air pumps for $14.95. That's a really good price for insurance for your tanks. I'm going to go stock up on a few since I have six tanks (fw & sw), even though I have a small generator and a UPS backup. Just paranoid, although our power lines are buried so not [knock on wood] been affected by all these wind storms so far. I just like to be "OCD" prepared.

Wow, I think that's the "mild BC coast tax" you're paying right there. If there's an outage here at this time of year they let us run generators - besides which, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to pay the fines than repair all the frozen water lines!

These are great, I have a few of these (got them at PetCetera years ago).

The Honda EU series generators are quite, used them before, your neighbors won't hear it.

Problem being they're quite a bit more money for something you hope to never use. I have seen them in use, and damn quiet, but big bucks.

I bought a couple of these
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-F...rchweb201560_9
and 1 of these incase those blue ones were crap and this ones exactly like the petsmart ones that work well.
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/WSFS-...430810897.html

Both work awesome.
And MUCH cheaper then anything you can buy in store here. I bought some 7" bubble wands to go with them instead of the air stones so there is a wider surface area for the bubbles vs just 1 spot.

My Toyota Tacoma came with a 400w inverter.

All I do is open the garage door.
Start up the pick up and let it idol.
Run an extension cord to a power bar near the tank.
Plug in my low wattage AMP Master circulation pump
Plug in a Tunze water pump to each tank

Run it for approx 15 minutes every 3 to 4 hours and you should be fine.

Nice. For that price, I'd buy one today. But cheapest they have now is 550ish and tax. Since I've never had a loss of power for more than an hour in 20 years, hard to spend that kind of money.
