Possibly as my planted tanks always had gravel, the sand then planting substrate, so its probably a good insulation :P I think youll be just fine

Sadly I just checked the temp on the tank and it went from 76 (before the heater was plugged in) to 84 within a few hours of it being plugged in. Guess it's to powerful for my little tank, thankfully there's just water, sand and rock in it right now.

Aquascape pic's will come later

Well you might have to bite the bullet and get a small adjustable heater

I was able to squeeze this one into the return compartment of my 2G Fluval Spec:
http://ca-en.hagen.com/Aquatic/Heating/Heaters/A756

It worked well. I'm not sure if you could squeeze it in beside your skimmer, but it might be worth a shot.

Yep but unfortunately the smallest adjustable heater is 25w and has the potential to fry my tank if it fails and gets stuck on on.

That is similar to the heater I was looking to get, here's the one I had in mind http://ca-en.hagen.com/Aquatic/Heating/Heaters/11186 unfortunately the store I went to was sold out which is why I thought I'd try the other one I got. Temp in the tank is going down but not as fast as it went up, it's at 83 now. Back to the store tomorrow *sigh*

As long as I'm not to blame for setting up another tank it's all good It's so true though, is not like I need another tank......but since we had one laying around......why not set it up

Congrats on the wedding you guys must be crazy busy!!!!

I love catalina's and was thinking maybe a cold water nano but it seems to sit around 76 (right now) with no heater so not quite cold enough for them.

Hmmm...interesting...always wondered how people heat these tiny tanks.
Good thing you tried it without any livestock in first!

Yes thankfully. Checked the tank just before I left for work and it's at 77 which is good for now but when it gets colder out the temp in that room drops I'm guessing I'll need a heater.
