Default Regal Angelfish

I am being told in order for a Regal Angelfish to survive it should be in a reef aquarium. Has any one ever had any experience with one? What colours are best to be kept with one? I am not interested in doing an all out sps tank. Would the fish be ok in a mixed reef with leathers, ricordeas, acans, donuts, frogspawns and bubble coral? Clams?

Thank you.

Regal angelfishes don't necessarily have to be in any reef environment, they can be in a fowlr as well. Its just that they are shy and often hide. However lots of hiding space would be nice. In a mix reef they will do just fine. Its rare that they nip on any types of corals. When I had mine I had no troubles keeping soft corals with him however it was troublesome to feed the poor guy. Very finicky eaters, I guess that it would be a good thing that they eat something even corals :P.

I would think some of the fleshy corals, like those listed, may be hard for an angel to resist. I have not owned a Regal but most of the other angels kept by reef aquarists, seem to turn on fleshy corals like you listed. Hopefully someone with more experience with Regals will post.
