Default how big is too big?.....

i was just wondering if anyone has read somwhere if they should buy a skimmer for the display, sump, and fuge combined total gallonage or just get a skimmer big enough for display tank???? because my display is going to be 140g and sump will be a 56g tank and the fuge will be a 75g so should i get a 140gallon capable skimmer or a 265gallon capable skimmer? thoughts and opinions would be apriciated because i am sort of a newbie at this! THANKS!
