Default Skimmate problems!! Help!!

Hey guys, lately I've been noticing skimmate(I believe) on the surface of my water. Wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what's causing this? I have an RSM130 with the tunze90002 skimmer. Could the skimmer Be too low in the back chamber? I'm. It too sure what's going on. Thanks in advance!!

what do you mean skimmate? oil slick? foam?

did you mean Tunze 9002?

If you're using a 9002 then
A) that's way underpowered for your tank.
B) It does not have a surface skimmer so protiens (oils from food etc) will naturally rise to the tank surface and make some lasting bubbles unless you have surface agitation.

Make sure the water level is below the upper rim so the surface skims into the back chamber.

The rsm 130 is only 35gal, the 9002 is the first thing most people change on this setup. Plenty of skimmer for it.

actually the tunze 9002 is rated for like 50g red sea max 130 is only like what 34 gallons? I doubt that would cause any problems those little skimmers are beasts I run one on my cube

my bad never used RSM. assume d it ment 130 gallon.

most I used it on was a 20 display and 10 sump.

and if I remember right there is no back chamber?
2 vertical chambers stacked up.
no actual pump to move water in/out, relies on diffusion.

Ya it's kind of like an oil slick. No foam. Haven't had a problem until recently. Tank has been running fine for over a year now.

Nothing has changed in my tank. Maybe I hit the skimmer a little bit my last water change/media change.

Actually it has a back chamber and 2 return pumps.

Check the display portion and make sure the water level is below the upper rim. It's one if the design problems of these setups. It won't skim the surface if the water level is to high.

Also point one of the pump outlets towards the surface.

I've had an rsm for 4 years and have experienced this multiple times.
