Default Wanted: Vacation Ideas

My extended family and I are wanting to go on a group vacation next summer (July or August) for a week. We want something on a lake or ocean, preferably a house for rent. We don't want to stay in a neighborhood or suburb (i.e. we want it to feel vacationy)...

Eight adults and two children (5 y/o). Any ideas? West coast, east coast, Caribbean coast, Indian coast, etc? Not TOO pricey, but not too budget either.

I've heard Costa Rica is nice and affordable...can't speak from experience though.

I know of two places for rent on Pender Island. One is on a small lake, the other is on a bay to the ocean. They belong to my wife's Aunt and Uncle. I'm not sure of the availability, they do get booked up for the summer months quickly, but it is well ahead of time, so there is a good likelyhood of availability.
