Default Help! Orange sponge dying

I have a orange sponge coral that first looked like it might be growing a white colour algae, then my hermit crabs started to pick at it and now it looks like crap. Chunks are gone. Any suggestion of what is going on or how to fix it. Thanks

My guess is the white you were seeing was the skeleton of the sponge. Have you checked your water parameters? Has there been a change in temperature? Also have you noticed any of your fish nipping at the sponge?

Parameters are all good. The white I was originally seeing was growing on it and flowing, now I see skeleton. I haven't seeing anything nipping at it other then the hermits climbing on it.

Sponges are notorious difficult to keep long-term. I don't think your sponge stands much chance at this point, but here is a great article about sponges you could read. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2011/6/inverts2
