I've had my 46 bowfront on a piece of ikea furniture for over a year now. Even had a couple spills, it's still solid. I trust it completely.

My 45G came with a "Ikea" Stand. Laminate covered Particle board. I even pulled the center support out to put a sump in. All was good. Had some spills in the sump, and it did swell a little but never affected strength. I had the tank for 4 years before I sold it to a fellow Canreefer who AFAIK still has

I'd be more concerned about the little legs than the stand itself. As has been mentioned already, most aquarium stands from big box fish stores are nothing more than MDF and laminate.
